Ultherst was once a peaceful, God-fearing land until the Three Scourges of God came to pass as foretold by Saint Ezekiel, one of the twelve followers of the First Prophet. First came the famine that devasted the populace. Next came the plague that added more unfortunate souls on Death’s abacus. Finally came the great rain of fire, and death fell down on sinner and innocent alike, blood flooding the streets in place of water. The people, in their desperation, turned away from the Holy Mother Church and delved deep into pagan decadence or succumbed to the temptation of the Devil. You have been charged with the office of Inquisitor. It is up to you to investigate crimes against the one true faith and root out heresy--using any and all means necessary. As in all best computer RPGs--the most important choices are yours to make.
Inquisitor is a unique blend of action-oriented combat with a deep and involving tale of betrayal, torture, madness, and infernal damnation. Put your wits to the test as you collect evidence against possible heretics and put them to trial once they have been charged. While it looks great (which made me buy it), it plays a bit janky which is unfortunate. In that sense it is too old-school, when some technical and gameplay limitations might have been given a pass but it should have been improved for today's standards.
...as many (or this small group who is awere of this game existance) people said before 'Inqusitor' is almost perfect in one aspect - briging back the good/ great/ consiuming ( pick whatever you prefer) oldschool rpg experience.
After beating the first act of the game I have so far very positiv opinion. The best part of the game without any discussion is the story. I heard only the writting in english verions is somewhat lackig. Due to the fact it is not my native language I will stop mysalf from giving any opinion on this matter. I can only say i found few mistakes in the text, but in comparison to the amount of it , it seems rather irrelevant.
The only problems there is for me with the game are rather jerky respons of your character to the player comands. It happend many times I couldn't cast spells or my priest refused to move, even thoug the way was clear. I also quite often find myself casting wrong spells on my alies, due to the fact the shortcut for some reson didn't work.
Such things are unfortunetly the part of oldschool games so if you never was a big fun of this kind of them, I won't recomend it you.
Others should pick it up, i think it is worth its price.
P.S
Soundtrack maybe isn't the best thing you can hear nowdays, but it has some specific charm to it. :)
From what I heard starting off in Hard difficulty would be nightmarish and easy would still be hard but as usual I picked the middle ground of Normal. This game is hard as hell (literally) and I was having doubts at the beginning about starting off very weak and the initial lack of story but after a couple hours of investing, now I love this game and I know about some of it's faults, for example mine would be only having 10 available spells at a time. The story is interesting compared to other Modern RPG's and deals with more grim subjects. But still I can see why a lot of people are put off by this game. With this game it all depends on what you are looking for in a game.
The graphics are good, although the relatively high resolution and gridless feel of the world remind me too much of Arcanum and not enough of Planescape.
The bad parts are the combat and the writing, which two parts pretty much make up all of the game except for slowly walking around.
The combat is dull and drawn out and is basically trading hp,mana and stamina potions for xp. The non-regenerating nature of hp,mana and stamina and the way your equipment breaks over time is extremely tedious.
The writing. I actually gave the 2nd star for the fact there is a lot of text in the game. There's a lot of dialogue options and lots of lore and story, which is good. Unfortunately it's all written seemingly by some European person for whom English was a second language: "I'll say you goodbye in that case", "we have hope till we breathe!", "Is there any problem in it?!".
This is an underdog.
Too many people are superficial and materialistic to see this one as a good game. They prefer superficial games like Mass Effect, Dragon Age, and other games with great graphics but poor game design and very linear.
This one is different and is more fun to play than any of these big budget games that focus on eyecandy rather than the game itself.
Unlike crap like Diablo, this game is tough. You should use your range weapons and magic first until you run out before going hand to hand (unless you fight a spell caster or deadly range attacker) because hand-to-hand is deadly.
I recommend this game ten times before any big budget games like Mass Effects, Diablos, Elder Scrolls 4 or more recent, Dragon Age, etc.
