On June 22, 1941, Hitler's German forces attacked Russia's 2,000 mile-long home front and advanced on Moscow. The Russians put up a fierce resistance which finally ground the Nazi war machine to a halt. Vital to the resistance was the Ilyushin Sturmovik, the IL-2. It was an anti-tank aircraft hailed by the Russians. The Russians called it "the flying tank", the Germans called it "Black Death", and you will call it the most exciting and realistic combat flight experience you've ever had.
Oleg Maddox’s world famous Il-2 Sturmovik™ series of flight simulators continues to expand. The latest offering, Il-2 1946, adds 36 new planes, four new gigantic maps, over a hundred new ground objects, and nearly 200 new campaign missions. This new opus also includes all of the previous Il-2 series content. What began years ago as a one-aircraft study sim is now an astonishing anthology, with a whopping 229 flyable aircraft and over 300 aircraft total!

i was born to fly.
i love this game because a friend that died burned a copy of it 4 me and i never got to thank him and he had lots friend and i played this game and other game in the present that were easy to play that took up lots of room on my hardrive and this game is better then chuck Yeager game because the designer was a elite master programer and he like many is his field spend hours by himself with help from other make the perfect game i no i am a former Powell river scout and air cadet and my family was involved in ww 1 and 2 they are dead and they have quite a history with the department of defense in the states and England. and i would recamend this game to my friend who every reads this depending how fast a computer he or she is running.

Unplayable (like all games on GOG)
First the game did not launch. By chance I came across a post on the forums about getting it to run. However no matter what I do, all the environment is just black, with just the planes rendering. Im so sick of issues every time I purchase a game from this site.

Not for the fiant of hart
IL2 what can I say about IL2 it is quite simply brilliant and unforgiving and hard and so much better for it. In this version there are a huge complement of aircraft all accurately modeled from byplans to early jets (yes there were jets in world war two). It's all there . You may be tempted to jump right in to a spitfire and just get stuck in DON'T spits are fun aircraft but a pig to land. You are better off with a fixed gear zero or something . This sim is made for the hard core . Good hunting

AFTER 10+YEARS OF ONLINE EYE CANDY IT SEEM IT HAS BEEN GETTING BETTER..I BOUGHT IL2 BACK IN 2001 AND I STILL FLY THE GREATEST FIGHT SIM ON THE MARKET...OUR GROUP OF DEICATED SIMMERS WILL NOT FLY ANYTHING ELSE IT IS A MUST HAVE SIM
