Mature content notice: HuniePop contains explicit language, strong sexual themes, partial nudity and is intended for mature audiences.
HuniePop is a unique sim experience for PC, Mac and Linux. It's a gameplay first approach that's part dating sim, part puzzle game, with light RPG elements, a visual novel style of presentation, an abrasive western writing style and plenty of "plot".
8 gorgeous girls each with their own personalities, preferences and style. (Rumor has it there are several secret characters to unlock as well!)
Hundreds of collectables including gifts, outfits and photos that you can purchase, unlock or earn as special rewards.
An addicting match-3 style puzzle dating system with it's own unique twists including upgradeable traits/stats, the ability to move any number of positions and special date gifts that have a variety of interesting effects on the puzzle.
This is my favorite game of all time... seriously. But you have to consider that I love jewel-type games, dating sims, and anime -- not to mention simple, addictive fun. I won't say this is the best $10 I ever spent, but it comes close, and the most highly rated games I've played since don't entertain me nearly as much, despite being objectively better games.
If you're looking for a serious challenge and deep thought, or you're offended by games like Leisure Suit Larry, you won't like this one. However, I find it very replayable and the game still challenges me. I've never reached a point where I found the actual play trivial.
I have a problem with Match-3 games: there's no strategy to them, it's all chance-based gameplay with visuals that tend to reward you for being lucky. That's why I can't ever get invested on one for more than a few minutes before never touching it again.
But this game fixes all that. There's actual strategy here. You can't just click around like crazy and hope for the best, you have to carefully consider your moves and their consequences on the board. Time limit is removed and replaced with a set number of movements and the gameplay evolves the more moves you make, as certain moves at the beginning pay off better later.
Furthermore, there are light RPG elements. Every girl you play with has different preferences on tokens, so you have more to consider. And in the Date Sim part of the game you have to carefully seduce the girls in order to win experience to level up and upgrade your abilities on the board, which in turn helps you make money, which helps you on dates. It's all very carefully executed and balanced.
The only problem is, this game tries to be two games at once: Match-3 and Date Sim. And while it unexpectedly succeeds spectacularly at both, not necessarily all people will be interested in both. I have no problem with the titillating pictures, but surely my mother wouldn't feel the same, so this is a game I cannot recommend to her, even though she likes puzzle games.
I really wish there were more games like this, with different tones. This should be the future of Match-3. Less Candy Crush and more HuniePop. Match-3 games are never going to stop coming, so let's hope they follow this game's path.
This is game is a hilarious and fun mix of puzzle with lite dating sim. The introduction is short and sweet, and it doesn't take long to get a good idea of how to master the gameplay mechanics and dive quickly into the meat of the game.
The only cons I see: there's a bit of repetition by the end of the game, when you're trying to get all the items for every girl and a lack of in-game instruction booklet for when you forget how some of the mechanics worked. (It sucks to lose a game because of that. :P)
All in all, this is a recommened buy.
Don't expect some deep story or some erotic revelations. This is a simple match 3 game and dating sim with stereotypical manga babes. For a 100% completion you'll need about 10 hours, so maybe grab it on sale
This game combines match-3 puzzle gameplay with an actual incentive to play this genre.
Rewards are pretty cool and dialogues actually make sense.
You need to invest into perks - characters skill upgrades in order to comfortably beat harder puzzle levels.
