Run of the mill

HuniePop is run of the mill in every sense of the phrase. The match 3 portion is engaging enough, and kitting out your selection of date gifts adds a bit of strategy as the game gets more difficult, but in the end you can approach pretty much every puzzle scenario in the same way to succeed, and often (as is the case with many match 3s) you can just get very lucky. However, occasionally you do have an exciting game that comes in close to the wire. As a match 3, it's just totally fine. There's nothing particularly innovative or interesting about it. It's serviceable. As pornography (this is after having installed the patch to uncensor the game), there's nothing you will see here that won't be better than what you can find in 5 minutes of perusing the internet for hentai. The art is high quality, that is for sure, but there is no shortage of high quality anime smut available for free on the internet, so you might find yourself wondering why you're going to spend 5 matches (minimum) per girl (so 60 matches in total) to unlock 48 images that range from PG to ecchi to straight up hentai. It might be for the "dating" elements, but the game falls flat in that regard as well. None of the characters are especially interesting, and while they all have distinct personalities a lot of the conversation options are simply questions like "how tall are you" or "what is your favorite color?" No joke, there is nothing going on here. It would have been nice if the women in the game had more interesting stories that revealed themselves over the course of the 5 dates, so that you could get some sense of who the characters were on the road to unlocking the porn, and then they could have added all the filler for post-game shenanigans, but that's sadly not the case. As it is it just becomes a grind to finish all the dates and then after getting all the art you unlock a harder difficulty that is there for what reason exactly? TLDR: I finished it, it wasn't great.

Brought joy to an old man

I have a smile on my face the whole time I'm playing this game. It's a dirty little game that is loads of fun. The girls are all so sexy and unique! They have different personalities: mean, intellectual, reserved, promiscuous, spiritual, and more. Their voices are all so well done and fit their personality perfectly. They are all so fun to talk to and try to get in bed. The cat girl is the only one that I don't really enjoy. She really too cat like for me. I love cats, but not in that way. Some reviewers have talked about the difficultly of the bedroom scene, but it's not that bad if you have a little patience. You can't lose, it just takes time. It's a lot harder if you're staring at the girl waiting on her to take off her bra. The timer drops more slowly after you get the girl "warmed up", kind of like real life.

Very entertaining

I'm currently playing this game and I really like it!! First of all, it's very entertaining and I like solving its puzzles. Secondly, it has a terrific artwork. Finally, I'm learning a lot of English with it! Every girl has her own style and my ear is getting accustomed to them. I have not finished the game yet but I certainly will.

Deeper Than Expected

I went into this game after having read some reviews on how it mixed up the match 3 formula into something new and interesting. I expected this to be a good match 3 game with a flimsy 'dating sim' slapped onto it. What I got was a really interesting game full of really versatile strategy, and a pretty direct dating sim mechanic with characters that were actually pretty diverse, consistent, and had more personality that a lot of mainstream game characters. The idea is simple; meet girls, give them gifts (some will net you gifts in return), ask them on a date. You have a finite amount of moves to fill a bar which serves as a score. An example would be that you begin a date with a score of zero and the goal is to hit a score of 100 before you run out of moves. Various other modifiers allow you to boost the score for each match and these can be activated during the date with "Date Gifts" or before the dates by boosting your player stats with experience earned in the form of "Hunie". You get experience for conversing with the girls, asking about them or answering questions in a way they agree with, or by giving them gifts they enjoy with [b]"Munie"[/b] earned by winning dates. What they like and dislike in all of these categories are always available at a glance via a pretty simple user interface that resembles a smart phone (PDA), so there's really not too much guessing, just planning and strategy. The ability to mix up different reusable "Date Gifts" really added a layer of strategy and planning I had not anticipated, and I found myself really planning my games out according to the girl I was dating. There are some strategies that seem to win very easily. There is some sexy content, more of which can be restored easily via a patch. It's pretty graphic, but no explicit sex is depicted even if it is strongly implied. Even without the patch this is definitely not a game for the kiddos.

A fun and silly game

It does a decent, not great job of explaining the mechanics and the soundtrack is decent. The characters are humorous and the mechanics are reasonably easily picked up. It does get a bit repetitive.
