The best and worst of both worlds.
Pros: Interesting Rewards Exploration Good Music Lots of Secrets Decent Combat Generally Fun Cons: Spend hours walking in the wrong direction to get to a dead end Controlls are slightly off. Feels like it's a quarter of a second to slow from button to execution Uneven difficulty VERY gerneral directions/no directions at all Spend hours being lost On and of frustration

非常好玩的游戏。画风纯真
我玩冒险act游戏也有好几个了。死亡细胞Steam也入了。非常给力的。不同的画风。总归玩法是差不多的。 我觉得这游戏无可挑剔。就是难度有点高。还没有通关。。

An excellent game
Hollow Knight is an excellent game which combines Metroidvania style gameplay with a story delivered in the style of Dark Souls. You have the freedom to explore anywhere your current abilities allow and the game lets you find your own way through the world. It is only brought down by occasional stuttering, which often leaves you taking damage and another bug. A bug (that is supposedly fixed now) prevented me from getting my final charm slot and weapon upgrade.

Simply Perfect
"La perfection n'existe pas." We say in France... But I keep trying to find anything wrong in this game and I simply can't. The feeling of exploring an endless pit for the first hours of the game is fantastic. The animation, the art and all the attention put into every bit of details to built Hollownest left me speechless. The music is beautiful, sometime charming, some over time very intense. The mecanics are clever: - The more you hit your ennemy the more you can heal yourself. - Healing yourself take time and you are immobile, you only have some precious frames into you can heal yourself. - When you die you can get back your money ala Dark Souls. - Also like Dark Souls, you unlock some precious shortcuts over time, the level design is astonishing. - To unlock the map of each zone we must find the cartograph... - There is a mechanic of fast travel to avoid unnessary travels... Team Cherry has done a fantastic job and I am waiting forward to anything they can throw at us right now! This is the best Metroidvania I played since the king of all MetroidVania : Super Metroid on SNES. It is even better than Super Metroid honestly but... you know due to the respect we owe to the elders that settled all the basis of this genre, I will just say that it is second. To honor this game, I decided to finish it at 100%, it took me 30 hours. I would recommand this game to anyone, really. Everyone must at least try it. Thank you Team Cherry!

Bestroidvania
I don't like 2D platformers. I don't like most Metroidvanias I play. Despite knowing that about me, my friend said I should check it out. I'm glad I followed his recommendation as Hollow Knight has become my favorite Metroidvania. The exploration, the combat, the platforming, the story & world building are all of exemplary quality. Though I hate platforming, Hollow Knight did its job by compelling me to explore the world and follow through on hard optional platforming sections and it rewards you for doing so. The combat encounters are interesting throughout; despite having a fairly simple toolset, there is a great amount of nuance through augmentations of the player character and in enemy design to keep you engaged. It's a very well designed game both aesthetically and mechanically. Hollow Knight belongs in the canon of Metroidvanias.
