Ghostrunner

Think of this game as a mix of Shadow Warrior (without the humor) and Hotline Miami that is taking place in a big, postapocalyptic, cyperpunk parkour. It's clear the developers put a lot of love into their work and this game is worth the 30€ (even more so on sale). Good: - Short and intense levels and overall story ( ~10hrs for me to complete the game) - Very, very, VERY smooth controls (it's like wiping with silk) - Amazing soundtrack (keeps you hooked) - Challenging (1 hit and you are dead, but with well placed checkpoints) - Good learning curve (new enemy types, new formations that keep forcing you to adapt) - Kills feel satisfying (especially when you parkour around the enemy and execute them one by one) - The GORE - Simple and flexible skillsystem - Nailed the cyberpunk theme (visuals, artdesign, music etc.) - Collectables and perfecting your skills encourage replaying the levels Neutral/Bad: - Generic story (nothing special/new about it, but to me that's not an issue in this genre)

You're gonna play this game. It's gonna punish you. You're gonna rage quit. Later, after you've calmed down, you're gonna try again. Then you realize how far apart the saves are... and you write this review.

The story, music, and feel of this game is perfect. The gameplay is fast and satisfying. You die in one hit, but so do your opponents, and the game immediately restarts you at the previous checkpoint (with no perceptible load time) which keeps it from getting frustrating. My only complaint is that some of the puzzles took me awhile to figure out, but I think they are necessary as a respite between the combat levels. I have similar thoughts for the platforming segments which occasionally left me almost looking up a walkthrough. Overall worth playing, but watch some gameplay or grab the demo before buying if you're unsure because it's different from games you're probably used to.

This game is super hard for casuals like myself, but is a great game nonetheless. - Levels are challenging either because of the fights or the level traversal itself. - The plot is a little bit predictable, but still entertaining. - There are different mechanics to master with different skills. - Graphics are amazing. - The loading time is non-existent, so is super easy to "try again". Fully recommended.
