A tropical paradise seethes with hidden evil in Far Cry, a cunningly detailed action shooter that pushed the boundaries of combat to shocking new levels.Freelance mariner Jack Carver is cursing the day he ever came to this island. A week ago, a brash female reporter named Valerie had offered him an incredible sum of cash to take her to this unspoiled paradise. Shortly after docking, however, Jack's boat was greeted by artillery fire from a mysterious militia group swarming about the island.
With his boat destroyed, his money gone, and the gorgeous Valerie suddenly missing, Jack now finds himself facing an army of mercenaries amidst the wilds of the island, with nothing but a gun and his wits to survive. But the further he pushes into the lush jungle canopy, the stranger things become.
Jack encounters an insider within the militia group who reveals the horrific details of the mercenaries' true intentions. He presents Jack with an unsettling choice: battle the deadliest mercenaries, or condemn the human race to a maniac's insidious agenda.
A unique sandbox FPS that allows you to complete your objectives in several different ways
Challenging A.I. that dynamically responds to your actions
Beautiful graphics, even by today’s standards, that can be upgraded even further by fan-made content
The shooting is just incredibly boring in the game and despite it being open world it feels like you do the exact same thing all over again at the same looking locations. It looked good back then when we were all amazed by the rapid progress of the graphics but that is just what it was. A novelty. Nowadays you see the graphic is just very bland without any cham.
It was big deal when it originally came out. Now its not. Open world is not so open. Stealth mechanics are only a joke. Gunplay and graphics are still ok but you probably wont finish this game
Seems just another shooter to start. Some open exploration is nice.
Getting to the top of the carrier, there's a helicopter with a minigun mounted on the side; It never misses, the guy is invulnerable and there are about ten other enemies with automatic weapons scattered around the deck. No win scenario.
Game is mechanically very impressive - good shooting mechanics, decent graphics especially considering its time, performance is decent, level design is good. Stealth is functional too, which I did not expect.
However enemies are very buggy and I don't have the time to go around fixing a game that should be by default fixed. In my case I encountered invisible enemies (I think they were invisible...) who shoot me conveniently when I am at a particular point on the map. Either they are invisible, or they are always aware of my location and robotically shoot me when they see even a little bit of me, either way this is problem in a game where you don't have regenerative health, limited health kits and armor kits.
I guess if you have the patience to either deal with the buggy enemies or to find a fix, there is a nice game here in far cry.
Admittedly, it's kinda in between the two
I am not very skilled with video games but I still love playing them. Far Cry 2004 is everything I don't like about shooters from the era. Twitchy controls, terrible accuracy... I mapped it onto a controller to more like later games in the series but that didn't really help. I couldn't get out of the tutorial
Stealth is terribly difficult in the early game and enemies can swarm and are very difficult to see through the foliage. Nothing compared to the everything is the same color and impossible to see details of FC2 but still real hard to play
Without cheat codes working in the version of the game here, I can't recommend this game unless you are VERY good at shooters from the era. For me, it's utterly unplayable
