A tropical paradise seethes with hidden evil in Far Cry, a cunningly detailed action shooter that pushed the boundaries of combat to shocking new levels.Freelance mariner Jack Carver is cursing the day he ever came to this island. A week ago, a brash female reporter named Valerie had offered him an incredible sum of cash to take her to this unspoiled paradise. Shortly after docking, however, Jack's boat was greeted by artillery fire from a mysterious militia group swarming about the island.
With his boat destroyed, his money gone, and the gorgeous Valerie suddenly missing, Jack now finds himself facing an army of mercenaries amidst the wilds of the island, with nothing but a gun and his wits to survive. But the further he pushes into the lush jungle canopy, the stranger things become.
Jack encounters an insider within the militia group who reveals the horrific details of the mercenaries' true intentions. He presents Jack with an unsettling choice: battle the deadliest mercenaries, or condemn the human race to a maniac's insidious agenda.

There's a reason no one remembers this
If you can get it work without stuttering or flickering textures, it looks beautiful (for 2004). Unfortunately, movement is irritating. I got repeatedly caught on stairs and ladders, and vehicles handle atrociously, which you will be driving often. The gun boats are a constant annoyance, as is enemy placement in general. Far Cry, sadly, is at its best when it is a linear, boring corridor shooter. The map's unscalable cliffs and attack helis near water force you to repeatedly U-turn to reach objectives, sapping the whole point of an open world: exploration and freedom. Action isn't better. Unless you obsessively tag every enemy, you will never see anyone outdoors until they are in spitting distance. Forcing you to stare at the blips on your minimap in combat, which destroys the whole idea of immersion. I never used it in Far Cry 3, but Far Cry 1 is unplayable otherwise. It's a fact of life, that jungle sections in games always suck.

Classic shooter
I remember playing it back in 2004, at that moment Far Cry was at the pinnacle of shooter evolution, first sandbox-like! Today, in the beginning of 2022 this game seem not to be as fresh and hi-tech as before. Not writing about graphics, but storyline and game mechanics. This game is ideal for player who wants to relax, who does not like rich and complex storyline, who wants simply to shoot.
