+ has more story to it than the previous title
+ the combat feels as good as in the first title with minor changes
+ graphics are well done
- I'm not sure if I like the cartoonish cut-scenes
they add and drive the story, but I wish we could make at least choices
it all feels rushed in the last minute
- I don't like the micromanagement and interface
Good story , great gameplay , variety of weapons and items and good rpg.
Also excelent cinemtics with voice actors, ship and perk customization , crafting and power up yours weapons/equip.
If you have doubts whether to buy it or not , just buy it and enjoy it.
If you liked Everspace's ship controls but not the roguelike elements this is worth your time.
The controls/combat and graphics are very polished, which makes blowing things up in space quite enjoyable. There's a decent selection of ships and legendary items that change things up a bit. Be advised that the controls are arcady and not really suited for a HOTAS setup. If you want realistic flight mechanics, this is not the game for you.
My initial worry on seeing this game was that there wouldn't be enough variety in combat and maps and things would get boring fast. This was not the case at all. Past a certain initial point, the map, story, and ship options open up. They also present random maps with modifiers quite early in the game which is nice.
The story is a bit of a weak point. It's not bad, and I don't really mind the accompanying art style (slide show animations). It is however, more flavor than compelling part of the game. You'll probably find some arcs more interesting than others.
I'd like to see more content/expansions to help keep the game fresh and interesting, but I certainly got my money's worth even at this early date.
In theory, this game has everything it should, maybe besides captivating story. Good graphics, check. Nice steering, check. Good physics, check. Compatent AI, check. Ship customisation, check. Nice music during combat, check. Even some puzzles for those who want it. Yet, the whole feels like something very important is missing here. Maybe fun factor? Maybe frantic speed the first one had? Maybe an unique feel to it? Maybe an overarching idea that connevts all of those elements? It seems like this game can't decide what it wants to be, becoming a little bit if an arcane shooter, a little bit of a space sim and a little bit of pickup and deliver trading game, and all those segments feel disconnected. And, being good on all of those fields, it isn't excellent in any.
Please, note, that the game is not yet finished and there will definitely be improvements along the way. But so far... i'm just not feeling it.
It's rare I have a game meet my expectations. Even when games do so, I tend to have only middling positive feelings about it.
It's even rarer to have a good space game.
Everspace 2 takes what worked in various other space games and wrapped it up in a beautiful, fantastic package, while recognizing the failures of every other space game. Instead of focusing on being a mediocre 'sim,' it perfects the space formulae of entertaining gameplay without trying to stick to some old dogma. Combat is robust, the world is well designed, and there's a HUGE variety of set pieces and environments/novelty which is extremely rare for an indie title.
Let's just say this is like the devs saw Elite: Dangerous and said, "what if we ignored the stupid literal game-breaking gimmicks and focused on making a fun video game in space and take what worked in Elite instead?"
The visuals are stunningly beautiful at times, with gorgeous landscapes. This isn't just 'oh the graphics are good.' Graphical fidelity doesn't mean anything. STYLE does, and some of the space views are just some of the most beautiful scenes I have ever seen in a modern video game. It has taken its engine and made use of modern graphics
Puzzles are simple, require a little thought, but aren't overwhelming, and lean heavily into using visual environmental cues. It makes you pay attention to the gorgeous crafted details of the game and it's an excuse to actually FLY your ship around with some style. How fast you do a puzzle is determined by how agile you are with your ship and your ability to solve them.
Normal difficulty is perfect for a relaxed but not mindless experience. Adjust as desired.
Some ship classes could use a couple more modules (lego parts for lack of a better term) but overall cosmetics are robust and well designed.
Overall, the game is a legitimate 5/5. It has a few flaws, but almost none worth mentioning.
