That's not to say it's the same type of game, exactly. No longer a rogue-like (light?) this game now consists of beautifully hand crafted locations.
Honestly? I can't really think of anything I didn't care for in the game and if you pushed me to point something out it would be that interaction with the game's characters can be a bit disorienting if you haven't played the first game.
A paltry issue if you want to explore the vastness of space and enjoy yourself. The game looks great, plays great and is honestly just a jaunty good time.
So far a good successor without the rogue like elements - after 10 hours of completionist run i barely scratched the surface. Graphics are marvelous. I loved flying the stealth scout in ES 1 so the starter ship feels a little slow - but i guess i will be able to switch ships soonish.
The game is fun to play but you spend half the time loading into a zone than actually playing it. I bought the game thinking it would bring back memories of Freelancer, but it didn't. I will probably buy it again in the future if its ona much larger discount.
im enjoying it so far im playing it on very hard as im reasonably good at the original game and its kicking my ass lol , the only real complaint i have is the original control scheme from the first game is not here for controller it would be cool if they patched that in .
I really enjoyed the original Everspace and despite moving away from the Rogue-like aspects of Everspace 2 shines in its own right. Combat is fluid, enemies are varied, there's plenty of ship customizations and there's always a new upgrade to keep you looting. Every time I boot the game up I have a great time playing with full 6 DoF support for my HOSAS setup. If you like space sims buy both this and the original Everspace, you're in for a treat.
