It's just one of the worst games of 2024.
The supposed "hero" of the game is a bully—literally, it is one of its powers.
If you want diversity, try Tacome or Gone Home instead (both walking simulators).
I really wanted to enjoy Dustborn, but the gameplay and features left me deeply disappointed. For a game that focuses so much on narrative and road-trip camaraderie, the execution falls flat. The gameplay is overly simplistic, with shallow mechanics that offer little engagement or challenge. Combat feels repetitive and uninspired, and the "word-weapons" system, while unique in concept, becomes more of a gimmick than a meaningful feature.
The choices you're presented with in the story often feel hollow, as their impact on the narrative is minimal at best. The characters, though charming in design, lack the depth needed to make me care about their journey, and the dialogue is awkward and forced, trying too hard to be quirky.
On the technical side, the game feels unpolished. Performance issues like frame drops and bugs further hindered my experience. For a title with so much potential in its premise, Dustborn sadly ends up being a forgettable and frustrating experience. Save your money and time—this one isn’t worth it.
It starts with a long dialogue scene, full of cringy dialogue, followed up by yet another one when you reach your destination. I'm not opposed to dialogue and storytelling in games, however you have to present compelling characters and dialogue, whereas this game does neither of those things. This isn't The Longest Journey or Dreamfall: The Longest Journey. This isn't even Dreamfall Chapters, a game that wasn't particularly amazing. This is such a long fall from grace for Ragnar Tornquist. While there is combat, the combat resembles third-person combat from the early 2000's. It's so dated, so stilted, so utterly brain-dead simplistic, that it's difficult to even think of a single positive thing to say about it. As bad as the combat is, though, the other aforementioned narrative elements are somehow worse.
So what you're left with is a game that doesn't tell a good story, that has insufferable characters and dialogue, and combat that feels like it was ripped straight out of a Playstation 2 budget game from 2002.

A game for nobody
This doesn’t really feel like much of a video game
The game feels really satirical, as if it’s a parody
There is minimal gameplay, with it being just beating up things with little to no variety, awkward choices, pretty much ALL of the game is just silly cutscenes and dialogue and… Honestly i don’t even know what else to say
Not really a game at all, but having a vague semblance of a narrative adventure. This is a government funded propaganda piece to tell you that your world view is wrong and that you are bad. Weak action segments coupled with canceling whining, and, lying. I certainly can’t endorse this hateful smear campaign against decency.
