This propaganda piece masquerading as a game only has one real purpose: to influence the easily led (which is sadly most people nowadays) into being okay with bad people while normalizing bad behaviors. If you want the games industry to stop sh*tting all over the consumer then start by not buying this kind of trash (or at the very least avoid paying more than a few dollars for it in a bargain bin).
To not produce a review as pointless as @Zoidberg on 28.12.2024, and to bring some balance, this short text came into existence.
After actually checking a bunch of reviews, watching some videos and reading statements of the developers, it's rather obvious here, that the main selling point of this sorry effort, is it's agenda and it's black and white narrative. Only simple minds are easily impressed by a production which apparently tries to generate a story about some rebellious youths (the good guys11!!!), which are persecuted because they are the only ones fighting against an authoritarian system they don't want do be a part of.
Since the game is mainly about the message and much less about providing an engaging gameplay experience, it should be judged primarly focusing on the message as well.
And there is not much to say than that the message is just awful. While the idea of words of power (Skyrim Reference) is rather unique, the execution is abysmal.
Some examples:
- The game encourages to cancel and bully people (age rating from 12-16), while the developers are trying to build the same narrative around themselves they tried to generate for their protagonists, (progressive visionaries against the big bad bullying system of misogynist and racist oppressive people),
- inclusivity is allegedly promoted, while the protagonists are isolating themselves and also treat others (helpful humanoid robots for example) based on their prejudices / misconceptions,
- the game promotes delusional negative perspectives about the world (everyone is bad and needs to be rejected), and about yourself as a player identifying with the games protagonists (somehow fighting and conflict or avoidance is inevitable due to the lack of options / choices the game provides).
So even judging the game by it's message, it comes out as a shallow experience and not a good one, like "we save the world with the power of friendship". You can even consider it harmful.
Avoid this trash.
I'm a huge fan of The Longest Journey and The Secret World, it's really painful see Ragnar making this.
It's woke trash, so bad I'm still not convinced it's not a parody.
The features of canceling people, bullying them or even normalizing abstract and absurd behaviour hits home too hard. It does not trigger pleasant memories. Avoid at all costs.
If you hate your hard earned money, or the concept of fun, and/or your skin color, this game's for you.
Everyone else with even a hint of taste in gaming, or aversion to propaganda, save your money.
(Spotlight by Quantic Dream... Well, that explains a lot.)
