Fixed Up, Charming, Deep RPG

Awhile back there was some issues with saving but I haven't had that problem personally. As for the game it takes a good while to get into but that's because it's surprisingly deep! There's a bunch of auxiliary skills to train in addition to combat techniques, spells, and 'practical' abilities which I really appreciate. One of your team can train to harvest plants or animals, fast talk civilians, pick pocket, lock pick, or craft items in addition to filling fighting roles. The map is very forgiving (showing all landmarks and un-hidden quest locations as well as enemy markers) even if the turn-based combat is the right kind of challenging, juggling stamina and energy for fighters and wizards and allowing you to use any skill in combat so you can break off and bandage wounds or mix potions mid-battle with a paused menu. The story is generic but unapologetically so: no meta jokes or memes. There's so many little details I've come to appreciate in the journey like the party celebrating victorious quests, graphical niceties like fluttering feathers and warriors with drawn weapons adopting looks of determination. There's sporadic voice acting verging on ridiculous with some wonky but not deal-breaking translations. This is slow-paced, not action packed although there's a lot of methodical fighting. If you enjoy managing team members, planning out class/skill progression with experience you can spend at any time, and don't mind lots of walking through pretty surroundings and talking to people between encounters this is a very pleasant and highly customizable roleplaying experience.

A Decent Fantasy RPG

It's obvious that this game is inspired by the classic RPG games, it has a lot of complexity, especially in character creation, game mechanics, and leveling, something that might put off casual gamers, but I found it very attractive. It's based on a German table-top game, so anyone who has played D&D based RPGs should enjoy it. The story is pretty stereotypical, dragons, chosen one, the usual shebang. On the technical part, the game has been very stable, I played it for 50+ hours without any crashes at all. On the downside, the character creating is somewhat limiting, classes and races are present, you can't play an Elven Elementalist or a dwarven necromancer, for example. Also, a lot of spells are race or class-restricted, unless you're playing with a human there won't be many offensive spells available for you to learn. I'm giving it five stars not because the game is a masterpiece, but because it's fun and relaxing, after playing RPGs for over 20 years I've learned to keep my expectations low. If you played Dragon Age or Neverwinter nights this game will feel right at home.

A great RPG, is not broken!!!

I see some reviews that downvoted the game because it doesn't started, the solutions is restart your computer and problem solved, if that doesn't work reinstall the game and ot will work perfectly, if you have some problems just check the forum of the game here on GOG and you will find everything you need. TRADUCCIÓN AL ESPAÑOL!!!! El juego no la incluye pero la versión retail contaba con la misma, solo hay que descargarla e instalarla, dejo todo lo necesario en el foro por si lo necesitan, es muy simple, descargar, instalar y jugar, gracias por adelantado a los que compartieron esta traducción, el juego es excelente y espero que pronto añadan la segunda parte a GOG, mi billetera esta preparada!!!

Great adaptation of one of my favourite fantasy worlds

I played the pen & paper it was based on and the DVD version when it first came out. Loved every second of it. It recreates the world in one of my favourite historic phases (there is thousands of years of lore available in German), makes the rule system a little easier to handle (there where earlier games which adapted it almost 100%, which to non-P&P-Player could have been quite overwhelming, I suspect), and the I really liked the mix of epic storyline and oftentimes quite mundane sidequests. The latter point was one I liked most about The Black Eye: Not every adventure had you out to save the world, on the contrary, especially on lower levels you had everything from local village quarrels to kingdom-spanning conspiracies.

Great Rpg but beware on modern systems

I played nearly through the Game last year with this version. Encountered 2 Bugs,1 i could solve cause it seem to be pretty common.Was abug where you have to play a xoxox game in a tavern. The second was a bug where during a sneaking mission the game froze every time i tried it. Problem is,it was part of the Main Quest. Thus i had to stop my playthrough at a point where i was heavily immersed in the game. Pretty sad. But i wonder how many of the reviewers here played acutally full through this version. Aside of this its a really nice Rpg,enjoyed the time in this world.
