Welcome to the world of Descent - the amazing experience of 360° fluid 3D motion that is still unmatched. Plunge through mines that defy physics, blast your way past enemy robots and experience vertigo like never before. Arm yourself with deadly weapons and confront creatures with highly advanced artificial intelligence; they will plot, wait and ambush you from all sides.
You are about to embark on a new and exciting journey. One that will fill you with a sense of wonder and discovery. Light and sound will mix like a kaleidoscope to thrill you as never before. Spin 360° through twisting levels of mechanical monsters, deadly traps and hidden tunnels. Explosive 3D multi-directional sound effects and pulsing musical score will keep you on the edge of your seat.
After finishing 30 levels of thrill-packed Descent you would like to take a break or... plunge through 30 more levels of Descent 2 as you battle highly intelligent robot enemies, including the evil thief bot, leaving their flaming hulks in your exhaust.
Don't keep this feeling of nausea to yourself, go Head-to-Head with 2-player modem support or 8-player network and Tournament Mode. Brace yourself for the world of Descent... if you can handle it. Get them before they get you...
Dynamic gameplay that is hard to match even by today’s standards
A great musical score composed by artists such as Type O Negative and Skinny Puppy
Descent is notorious for an action packed gameplay and a good soundtrack to back it. The omni-directional movement scheme makes players think of every angle of attack, an enemy can come from anywhere, at any time. Sometimes even from places you have already been... Watch your back in every corridor as you venture into the mines of the Post Terran Mining Corporation to extinguish the menace that has taken control with an iron (no pun intended) grip.
This game can, in semi-rare cases, cause motion-sickness...
Since its initial release, I have maintained that no game past or present has had a user interface as sophisticated as that found in Descent. Think about it. Where else can you strafe straight up? Relative to other first person combat games of the era such as Doom and Heretic, the graphics really stood out from the pack. Full 3D enemies, weapons, and artifacts made this game believable. The only think left to say is not a statement of fact or a praise, which this game deserves much more of than I am giving it in this review. Rather, I'll end with a question. will we ever see a Descent 4? The world needs to be re-exposed the greatness that is Parallax Software.
You know the feeling when you relive a moment from your childhood and you remember the sense of joy that one particular thing brought you. Ya. This is one of those games. The quality is great for it's age, the gameplay is so incredibly solid you'll soil yourself, the music will get stuck in your head simply because it's that good, the level design is very unique to each level and set up like a maze that was constructed by the best minds on the team, and it has a very high replay value due to the difficulty differences each rank has. I am very happy I was able to find a copy that wasn't a portion of the game or just a taste, and 2 of them at that. Only problem is that I had to adjust some settings in the compatibility menu to get it to work right, but after that, no issues at all. If your a fan of blowing things up, flying freely, and high quality production for 1994-1996, Why are you reading this, get the game NOW.
Spent weeks beating this on a 486/33 with an S3 911 video chip . . .
I remember the local rock radio station (DC/101) handing this out to the [whatever]ith caller!
