this game in its current state will literally kill itself if you play it for too long. don't buy it until it's fixed. I'm waiting for when it's a finished game before I try to enjoy it again and start fresh. will update review as the game is.
I've been a fan of CDPR since the Witcher 3. Before W3 came out, I read every book then played all the games to truly understand the story. When I heard about Cyberpunk 2077, I was excited. I have massive respect for Pondsmith's world building and I loved how CDPR weaved their stories into their gameplay. I immediately decided that I was going to go on a complete media black out from the 2018 trailer. I wanted this game to be a truly novel experience.
And it wasn't.
In a weird way, this is Cyberpunk. I bought into the marketing of CDPR and they released a poorly optimized games with a lot of missing features. I'm not talking about wall-running, I'm talking about a functioning police AI system. I'm playing a game that's tagline is "Style over Substance" and yet I can't even charge my haircut? I built my PC to play this game, believing that this will be the best transition to becoming a PC gamer. In that sense, I'm lucky. My game is somewhat playable.
Cyberpunk looks beautiful but there's nothing to do in it organically. It feels like a weird amalgation of GTA, WITCHER, and FARCRY and it doesn't execute each premise (open world, cohesive narrative, engaging gameplay) better than the original and yet somehow is NOT more than the sum of its parts.
I'm 40 hours in and I'm tired. The game looks beautiful but after 40 hours I realized that the gameplay loop hadn't changed at all in 40 hours. No matter my upgrades, I had the same kit to deal with everything in the same expected way. Ex: I'm a hacker. I need into a side gig. I know there's gotta be a grate or auto-open door or a path. I found the narrative to be extremely bitter while also not challenging or pushing the genre in anyway. This has to do with the one central conceit of this game: This story belongs to V & Johnny. Not you.
This game is what Cyberpunk is. CDPR is (now) one of the (smallest) megacorps of gaming and I used to be a Corpo. This is triple A gaming. Choomba, it's time to delta from Triple A Biz
The game is pretty interesting, the city is beautiful... but the AI is pretty bad, the driving is awful (idk why anyone can make a good driving mechanism like GTA), the game is buggy as hell and it has a lot of lag with a GTX 1080 at Full HD (1080p) resolution. I honestly expected something awesome, but the game is just... average...
btw, the game is very focused on "personalization", but after the initial creation you can't even change your haircut, LOL.
