Playing this feels like doing the dishes or mowing the grass. The environments are boring, the story is boring, combat is boring, enemies are boring. The graphics are nothing special, I maxed this on Direct x 12 in 4k and it looked basic af. The facial animations are also ancient. I got this for free and want a refund on the time I wasted. The people who are calling this one of the best games ever need to go back to the circus. Uninstalled and forgotten.
I got a Control Ultimate Edition GOG as keys were given away for free on Amazon prime and peddled away for pennies on the gray market.
As I haven't payed more than a pittance for the game my perspective is more lenient than if I'd payed full price.
I played through the whole game with both DLCs and finished nearly all missions and the game ran stable on my computer (Ryzen 5700X, RTX 3080, 32 GB RAM, Win10).
This can't be said for the Anchor boss in a side mission where the game crashes reliably. It's mind boggling how a company like Remedy can ignore this issue for years and remain well respected in the industry.
Despite it's flaws and questionable game design choices I had fun with the game and would recommend trying Control tentatively.
I gave it multiple tries. I guess, the design descision to keep everything as opaque and vague as possible backfired in my case. It's beautiful and intriguing, but it doesn't deliver anything that would be able to rope me in in the first 90 minutes. I wander through endless corridors, irritated by a useless map and listen to lines that add up to pretty much nothing. I open the wrong door, I die from a rocket or whatever, fired buy a guy I never had a chance to see. It might get more engaging after a few hours, but I am not feeling entertained or inspired enough to wait that long.
