This game will not leave you indifferent. An interesting and well-made lore makes you collect information about the universe in all corners. The fights is interesting and dynamic.
I would love to say more about the game, but can't stop that feeling of a wasted chance, a mind twist or a what just happened kind of moment, I wish they were as bold with the narrative as they were with the shifting floors, it feels like a grind from time to time and I tend to play it in short burst to avoid overly familiar "horde fights", I gave this game a go mostly because it was in the back of my mind since the trailers and such, maybe my expectation was too high, always happy to support DMR-Free releases so all is well.
...because while the game looks and sounds fantastic, the gameplay felt just slightly above average, and the story just takes too damn long to take off: I'm over two hours in and it's all very opaque and confusing (not in a good way, it just feels pretentious and meandering). Top that with the nonstop whispering sound effects that's creepy at first but just makes me want to mute the game after the hundredth time I've listened to it, and I'm done.
I really love the feel of combat, but lots of half-baked mechanics that made me deduct 2 stars. For example, most of the weapon/personal mods you'll pick up are a joke and neigh useless; with the most important ones being damage boost and headshot boost. Throughout the game, I must have collected hundreds of mods, but they're only useful for deconstruction. Damage mods are so rare and I have only seen less than a dozen in my playthrough. The end-game content (expeditions) is also not satisfying.
