It's a good game with a lot of potential, but there are misses... like the crafting system is a mess when it comes to execution ?! I mean it's a heck just to build stuff and to "see the big picure".
Also the game mechanic itself has some flaws, like the soliders repating the same sentenices over and over, the AI is not very clever and sometimes it just feels like a game that came out in the early 2000's.
Not all bad thu, i'm liking the game but there are small things that adds up to just 3/5 for me.
I picked it up after purchasing a game to unlock the ability to gift a game to a friend, because some banks flag GoG transactions.
I played it for a few hours and I sadly have to refund for now. I do hope the devs fix these bugs though.
The game itself is interesting but the bugs were really bad.
The revolver's cyclander would duplicate and break itself after looting an enemy.
Enemies never took notice of me and even after a restart I had an early mission that the enemies bodies didn't spawn, but you could still hear them talk.
I know they're working on the sequel game and that looks nothing like this.
I'd love to see the devs fix the issues or at least if the title is beyond it's lifecycle, open it up for modders.
Chernobylite is a great canidate for a moding community to do wonders with!
That's all. It looked great, played meh but the mentioned bugs ruined it for me.
The story is super contrived to the point that it just becomes completely impossible to take it even remotely seriously and the game-play parts don't mesh well together.
The graphics are great though.
I'm not sure what others are playing, or if I have come in after many of the kinks have been worked out, but I'm loving this game.
Pros:
- Intriguing story
- Survival-Horror is sufficiently scary and keeps me interested
- Base builder element adds strategy to the gameplay
- Voiceovers are very good (I use spoken-Russian, and subtitles-English)
- Looting is not too prevelant but just right. If you are willing to put in the time and effort, it's easy to get enough materials to upgrade your base and equipment
- Base and henchmen NPC management is engaging and your choices have real consequences
- NO WOKE BULLSCHIFF
Cons:
- RNG missions are repetitive, but really unnecessary and enough materials can be found during story missions to largely ignore them except to give your henchmen something to do and gain a few extra materials.
- Enemies (NAR) can see through bushes to fire on you, where you cannot
- Enemies (NAR) carry hi-spec rifles that disappear when you loot them (just give them AKs devs, and have them break 80% of the time they are looted!)
From the perspective of an aging gamer who loved stalking around Chernobyl and considers the Metro and Stalker series some of the best FPS gameplay available on PC, Chernobylite gets my heavy recommendation. Do not let this one pass you by.
