The gameplay loop of doing missions and coming back to your base in between them is very satisfying for me. The end goal is to prepare yourself for a big heist, which you can launch at any point in the game, it's gonna be bordaline impossible without a solid prep
You need to care about your base, scavange for resources. You need to care about your companions, as they can become wounded, they need food, medicines and some relax time to not go crazy.
Companions are written in an interesting manner, each has his own personality and goals.
I'd give 5/5 if not for bugs. Animations and models go wierd from time to time, I also got stuck on the terrain and had to reload. There are also performance drops. But overall, it's a very solid game, def worth it
i just barely started and like it very much already. So far ill give it a 4 but will edit when i complete trhe game. It is a very fun and engaging game, i can see why its so loved.
Unlike STALKER, this version of the Zone is as close to a real life rendition of the Chernobyl exclusion zone main areas as you'll probably ever see. So much so, it has a tourist mode where you can just look around them without any risk.
The main game is very interesting, the story so far about finding your love (who clearly seems to be long dead) is intriguing, but more so is the central base where you have to balance your companions comfort and air quality, and anti radiation needs with setting up crafting benches to produce things you'll need.
It's been fun so far completing missions and seeing the progress on the base daily with the new resources acquired. That's much of the good, the graphics run well and still hold up in 2025. My biggest issue is the gun play and stealth mechanics. All of it feels quite janky, and while it's acceptable, it's for me the weakest part of the game.
Chernobylite is a stealth, crafting, survival story adventure game overall I would say. For the sort of discount price it's available on now, it's good value and for those who love this type of game, it's great.
What it does not do however is have super smart AI like STALKER that make the zone feel alive. The AI are fairly stupid and go back to their predictable routine within a minute of cool down.
It's hilarious to see non-owners review bombing this game. So don't listen to me, i dont own it yet, listen to verified owners. Look up Chernobylite review on youtube (like GMANLIVES).
Seems like a decent but janky game with a good story. Says it's relaxing and exploratory, and not the "timed" experience ignorant "reviewers" are whining about.
This game does not deserve a 3.4/5 rating. It borrows elements from Darkwood, Subnautica, Stalker, and Metro 2033, and I think they did a fine job. My only problems with the game is it is way too talky (diaglogue diarrhea is the curse of all modern video games, now) and using herbs and mushrooms to craft gun parts and body armor is just plain silly. It's more polished than a lot of Eurojank games I've played, and the Russian language with English subtitles is an amazing feature. Voice acting is always better in a foreign language, haha (gotta love those Tarkovsky films). Anyway, gun customization is an awesome feature, and I highly recommend getting the thermal vision for your rifle as fast as possible, because the enemy is extremely camouflaged, which only makes since in an overgrown suburban ghost town. It's not Stalker, but I like it way more than Metro 2033 (the game, not the book which is actually good). The timed missions are no different from the AtmosFear mods from the Stalker community (instead of radiation storms you have to find shelter and hide from the Nemesis.) Finding Stalker comrades and making a comfortable base for them to live in is reminiscent of the Sims with a very small tinge of X-com:EU on the side for mission assignments. AMD FSR mode is definitely a plus, as it greatly improved my performance.
Menu navigation is terrible, but you get use to it over time. Base building is console friendly which means its like No Man's Sky awful navigation system. Would have been nice to have a mincraft menu layout instead, or a Stalker click and drag system. Mouse and Keyboard must be passe to developers now days. But yes, this game is a ton of fun and I really, really enjoy it once you tune out the endless dialogue, switch the voice acting to Russian, and learn how to menu navigate. 5/5 for fun factor, because this game does rock!
