I find it funny as a lot of people somehow dissing Bioshock when comparing with this game as if this was the most brilliant construct game ever.Dont get me wrong it was fun,but is it outdated, yeah it is.The environment is too dull, the AI is not that advance, the gameplay was nothing special.Oh wait whats that I just heard, its a 14 year old game?So what the heck are you all doing by comparing it with Bioshock? Come on people the gameplay was alright, but it is not the best construct fps game ever,it might had blown people minds in the 90's,but by today standard its nothing special. And anybody who says otherwise needs to get a grip with reality. Ok so what about the storyline?,lol people who praise it to be a masterpiece really need to go and read books.Dont get me wrong the story was alright, but calling it a masterpiece?lol, surely they're not the first people to tell a storyline with a crazy computer program. And actually I would say the game lacks of story and tries to tell it through logs, which I hate.So please dont overhyped about the storyline. Conclusion: An okay game, old but still enjoyable but is way OVERHYPED.
After most their titles always received positive and good reviews, most of us probably have a high expectation of good quality games coming from them. So the question came to our mind isn't "Is it gonna be a good game or a bad one?".Instead we would ask "How good is it gonna be?".Well.... ==================================== One of my few complains about the game would be,maybe some would disagree but it felt like a very small world.I really felt restricted in the game.I expected a much larger area to explore in the game when I was in the city. And the city somehow just didn't felt as lively as it should be.I mean it looked great and the passing robot crowd did help, only it wasn't enough to make me feel like i'm traveling in a busy and bustling city of metropol. ============================== Second, the game was too SHORT.I felt like it was over too soon. And another is that I felt that the game was very anti-climatic.(Spoilers): The scene where Clarity told Haratio to escape while she hold off Scapper really felt anti-climatic with its lacks of sound effect and good script of animation sequence. The way it reveal its twist and end was really anti-climatic.The way crispin sacrifice himself, the twist that metropol killed the humans, the truth about Horus(well we saw that one coming)Most of the scene was just too emotionless,I understand that they were machine, but i'm pretty sure they're suppose to have emotion or most of the story wouldn't make sense.I just felt they didn't executed the scenes the right way. ==================================== The good thing that I can say about this game is that its choices of action and the consequences of its result, the many endings was nice even tough I was dissatisfied on how the way it ends, the plot was interesting as I would expect from wadjet eye, only it was very short. And I expected a bigger and larger area of exploring. =========================== I wanted to give this a game a 3,but i'm gonna give it a 4,because maybe I still haven't enjoyed this game to its fullest. There still are items which I haven't barter, maybe there are still choices that I haven't done and maybe more endings to unlock.I did enjoy this game but it has its flaws and I would recommend you play it too.
So this was the secret weapon for europe, their answer to the gaming world in the mid rise of the JRPG? If I have to rate this as a JRPG,I would have given it a 0,it felt nothing like a JRPG,even the character design. The characters wasn't memorable, almost no depth. No town that we can explore or do sidequest. It just failed as a JRPG. But why I give it a 3 star then?,well I wanted to give it a 2 star but I thought that would be a bit harsh, cause its not all that bad if you don't look at it as a JRPG.The game is fun to play, but that is the only good thing I can say about it.
I'm not sure if I can judge the game fairly yet,as I have only finish the first one and in the middle of playing the third one,but after hearing from many people I don't think the fourth one will be any good either. But from my experience in playing the 1st and 3rd game, the game lacks in the good storyline department,it wasn't awful or anything but wasn't special or interesting. The concept of following a police procedure is cool and all but I think they could have improve them in more creative ways. They also force you to remember a lot of police officers codes, which is cool but sometimes too much can be chore and when a game becomes a chore = not fun. Also I hate to think about the kids in the 90s who bought the game and lost their paper codes and got stuck. I think they should have made a police notebook in the game where you can refer codes easy and faster in case you forgot them. But NOOOO,we have to take time to learn them and remember it,cause there's no sloppy work as a police officers. As much as they wanted to make us feel like a police officers,we're not here to be police officers or entering a police academy,we're here to play an adventure game and have fun. I would recommend to skip this one if want to play a serious adventure game, the story wasn't that awesome nor is the gameplay.Better go with Sierra Gabriel Knight,if you're searching for a good serious adventure game.
I really wanted to like the game,I tried to tell myself this is a good game but its not. Cons: One of the main problem in this game is that it made the BATTLE as a CHORE instead of it being part of the experience .It never let the player rest and do much exploring. Its go this and fight that then go there and fight this, the game never let players take a breath and give them something else to do. Not only that, sometimes it ask you to backtracking like a MILLION times, and the same enemy appear for us to fight. If I cleared all of the monster in the dungeon, all of them would appear again,if I have to BACKTRACKING!.They could have made only one or 2 group revive but noooo,I get to kill the same enemy again and again and AGAIN!. They could also have made "RUN" option 100% success so the player can just skip battle if they wanted too, since they force us to backtracking many times. One of the most ridiculous puzzle and backtracking place was the "Chosen Palace".Why the hell did we have to "Pull that lever to open that door so we can pull that lever to get the key that can open the room that has the lever to open this room, while battling hundreds of enemies",confused? thought so. All of this non stop backtracking and battle is just so that they can BOAST that the game is 80+ hours. It just failed, failed as a JRPG and also failed as a good game.It should have the player more of something else to do,like free exploring, mini games, more story etc. I can still complain about the boring town which also make exploring more pointless since that is the only place of free zone battle(except for a few small places). The boring NPC sets where they reused them a BILLION times, the boring town and place environment, its just felt lazy work to me.But i'm gonna stop my ranting and get to the good part, yes it has its moment Pros: Well the story isn't half bad,the characters could have use more depth but its not the bunch i have ever seen in an RPG.After 60% of the game ,you get to travel freely in your airship. The game a bit better at that point, since we can explore and discover secret places. I wanted to give it a 3 star, but i can't,they tried to mimic JRPG,but surely they failed to grasp a lot of thing that made FF VII(and other great JRPG) a good game. Its a bad game no matter how I look at it,but still has its pros.I recommend to skip this game.
