This is not a 'port' as other have said. It started life on the Amiga before being moved to the PC, then to other platforms. The controls are how they are and were when I played it back in the day... The story is why you play this game. It is an unspoken story but at the same time, extremely rich. What most don't know is there is a sequel that continues that story called Heart of the Alien and tells the story of the alien you escaped with. -1 star for not including the Heart of the Alien in this release. I think the Sega CD version is probably the definitive version of this game as it may be the only one that also includes Heart of the Alien.
I was really hyped to get Bannerlord II, and when I did, it was a total let down. Warband is so much better a game in many respects. While it's graphics may not be as great as M&B2, the gameplay is far superior. I found myself uninstalling Bannerload 2 and installing Warband again.
I am still looking for that New Independence War 2 with real Newtonian physic games. The IWAR series uses theoretical systems as well. That was one of my fav games back in the day. This is part way there. Best way to describe it from the few hours I have played to date is that it is similar so far to the X series. At $5 it is definitely worth a look. IWAR 2 still reigns supreme in the Newtonian Physics space combat sims though... If you want that model with build an empire type vibe how ever, which IWAR 2 lacks,, Helium Rain is definitely a good game. Note someone said docking was hard to do. It is not. Just need to get the angle right and your computer tells you when you are lined up and when you are not. Pretty simple.
After this game, the Star Wars franchise became obsessed with 3rd person perspective. If you want a FPS, then this is the last in a great line. Widescreen: FOV INI edit: Go to --> Star Wars Jedi Knight II - Jedi Outcast\GameData\base and create a new text file called autoexec.cfg seta r_customheight "1440" <-- your resolution height seta r_customwidth "2560" <---- your resolution width seta r_mode "-1" <--------------------- necessary for custom resolution seta cg_fov "96.4" <------------------ can be changed to any value Weapon FOVHEX edit: Go to --> Star Wars Jedi Knight II - Jedi Outcast\GameData\jk2gamex86.dll Go to OFFSET 107480 and look for 00 00 A0 42 and change it to 00 00 FF 43 (this will break the wrong calculation of the Weapon SIZE and FOV) I have the File in the Attachments: Jedi.Outcast - correct Weapon FOV.7z Ultra/Super-Wide (21:9/32:9) Specific Solution & Issues Same as WS solution above. Create a autoexec.cfg and add this Lines in it: seta r_customheight "1440" <-- your resolution height seta r_customwidth "3440" <---- your resolution width seta r_mode "-1" <---------------------- necessary for custom resolution seta cg_fov "112.7" <----------------- can be changed to any value Hex edit the Weapon FOV like above or use the Attachment. Linux: For Linux users, I got some notes as I couldn't get this one running for some reason. I found a solution for NVidia users: Configure the game -> System Tab -> Env variables add the following as written: Key: __GL_ExtensionStringVersion Value: 17700 AMD / Intel users can try the following: Key: MESA_EXTENSION_MAX_YEAR Value: 2003
I don't give it 5 stars as it is a little slow, and it doesn't grab me well enough to really get into it, but it is decent. I will go back to it in a bit and pick up where I left off. Maybe I am not far enough into it yet? I am in the town near the beginning. I seem to be spending an awful lot of time looking in baskets and whatnot which may account for the slow pacing. I saw reports of a launcher with DRM. My version doesn't have that. Maybe that is a Windows thing? I am running it on Linux.
Finished this game. Paid way too much money for what I got too. Won't be buying it again here. The game is sold as a Fallout 3 or New Vegas in space (Call me weird, but I liked Fallout 3 better than Vegas). Problem is, there is a lot of exploring in Vegas and Fallout 3. None of that is to be found here. You get tiny areas to visit, not explore. There is no sense of adventure. Sure you can travel to any of these areas at will, which may be part of the problem as you don't have to find your way there. Still I managed to complete it... But I have to say I was bored most of the way through. I finished it because I had nothing better at the time... Maybe a better word for it is 'flat'. It just feels flat. And the price! Why are they asking so much money for a game this flat?
I just have to say it never gets old killing the Nazi's operating an anti-aircraft gun and then getting in that gun and start popping Zeppelin's with it (Note this makes the Nazi's very mad!!!!) and causing mass chaos, and as the chaos increases, the Nazi's throw more and more at you until you got tanks coming you way. Sound familiar? If it does, you probably played Just Cause 2 or 3. This game was doing this mechanic before both of those hit the market! Yes, a popular way to get away is to climb... So yes, Just Cause without the grappling hook. I don't suggest jumping off either as you don't have the parachute as well. You got your standard steal a car from someone to get away and you can add cars to your stable, like a race car to do your race courses with... It is like this is the game Just Cause took all their ideas from. I don't fault them for it as it makes all of these games way fun, including this one! Runs fine on Proton Linux.
If this game was 3D, I'd give it 5 stars. The game play and music are both good. The story and fun factor carry all the way to the end. By then I was decked out with the biggest ship and the best equipment of course and ready to do some damage. Managing your shields is job number one and be a bit aggressive and you will do just fine. If one side of shields is going down, let them hit another side. Spread out the shield damage and you will win. Runs fine out of the box on Linux Proton.
This one I was a little worried about as it is a little slow to start, but once it gets going, this thing is great! Superb acting as well. Everything is professionally done. Great story, epic battles with many troops at once, the need to get ever better equipment, the need to level up your sword fighting skill, exploration galore. Nice touches too, like if you see something unexpected on the road ahead, you are probably about to get jumped by bandits. Be as good or as bad as you want to be in a time period authentic location. The game is so good, it left me with a grudge at the end. Waiting for KC2 as I have someone to kill. I would highly recommend you go to Nexus mods and get something like Apex ENB to bring a little cheap ray tracing to your game. Makes 1000x better lighting and like a modern engine. The change is very noticeable. Dull to vibrant: https://www.nexusmods.com/kingdomcomedeliverance/mods/660
Great post apocalyptic survival story. I was not a fan of the man eating plant section, but the rest is pretty good. I see reports of the Linux version not being Linux compatible. Not sure what is going on with the persons machine, but if it helps, I just booted up the Linux version on Manjaro stable and it works great!
