While Rimworld expansions are "desirable" but not "required" to fully enjoy the game, Ideology brings some fun ways to play the game. Ideology brings "existentialism" to your tribe, members will agree or disagree on others doings and ways to do things. Carnivorous? Veganism? Cannibalism? Peaceful ways? Aggressive ways? Nudity? Burka? Animalist? Holidays? Capital punishment? Tribe members ideology will also play a fundamental role to their skills and social interactions. While Royalty brings geopolitics, powers, missions and end-game options, Ideology brings diverse options to do your gameplay and ways to keep your tribe members happy or angry. You don't like your tribe member ideology? Arrest and convert it to your religion/ideology. Make your own faith and spiritual leaders. My personal opinion, this is desirable to have, makes your tribe members to have lots of interaction in positive or negative ways. Not everything is just work.
This game provides lots and lots of gameplay, and it's still supported despite being a 10yo game. Said that, the game base price is a theft including their DLC. If you want to buy it, wait for a sale. Paradox does support Windows, Linux and OSX which is great, not many companies do that.
The game in overall is interesting, but the plot and gameplay is often inconsistent. The game did the best to do a lot, but failed to do one single thing good. Its not a good shooter, its not a good stealth game, its not a good driving game, its not a good RPG... just good enough
