The graphics are very customisable and good, the story is just there enough to enjoy pressing forward with the gamplay, the voice acting is very good. I dont like tower defence games generally as they feel aimless when its just for fun and annoyingly contrived when its for story, but this game manages to make it not feel like the latter. Of course though, the main highlight of the game is how customisable both the player character is, but espicially the towers, these developers really went above and beyond with this and in the settings of the maps. only thing i could possibly complain about is that some missions are really hard but thats mainly a skill issue on my part and only 1 mission of the main campaign i couldnt actually complete. all were doable after thinking hard enough. also the devs made this game free for a bit, and that is absolutely always worth thundering praise
I cant even really say much you wont hear from others, if your interested not in slop but in genuinely amazing videogames which expresses the medium as genuine ART and not just a finanical investment and moderately interesting use of time for the terminally bored, you should buy this amazing game!
the game is a grounded mystery regarding a murder that happened, and when you get to a big twist the screen suddenly darkens, the a face appears in it and the florecent lighting sound grows much louder, its like this for about 4-7 seconds then returns to normal. i was not expecting this and it startled me greatly. i dont like horror and this game is not marketed as horror, why does it have a jumpscare? the revelation was great enough that it wouldve been more profound if it was simply the player working things out in their head while the game goes on as normal.
everything thats positive to say about VTMB is already said so i wont repeat it. its not THAT amazing of a game as others will make you believe tho. it has: >unsatifying endings to quests >extremely interesting characters who do literally nothing >walking for ages because they didnt put in any means of moving faster shallow themes that try to act as if they are deeper than they are but this this goes for most rpgs >one of the main playable clans, malkavians, whose defining feature is prophetic whispers has said whispers come with no subtitiles making them impossible to hear >one of the final bosses is literally so hard you should just cheat instead >final twist being kino doesnt change that the rest of the last quater is a wet fart >the main character is very stupid (is ironically a postive on repeat playthroughs) >leveling is mechanics are stupid ironically combat which is what most people moan about is fine and fun when you get stronger
nothing i can really state about this game that hasnt been said before as much as i hate that annoying cliche of a phrase. if you are interested in immersive sims or good games in general please play this and dont dismiss it as nostalgia slop which i am guilty of doing due to the annoying wave of 00's nostalgia. only novel thing to say is that to me this game has pitch perfect pacing, and is honestly emotionally resonante. the story *is* good and i will die on that hill
MUSIC: the game is great. i dont care for the music despite everyone loving it but hell youll probably like love it since it is well made. COMBAT AND BALANCE: the combat is enjoyable in how jank it is. that sounds bad but being able to be bodied whilst also having the power to turn the odds just as quickly is fun in a realistic ways most CRPGs arent able to do. violence in real life is unpredicatable and can very easily turn on the person winning just as often as a fight goes as expected. STORY AND CHARACTERS: the story is good if you give it time and dont put your expectations too high and dont believe the people trying to make it sound way more deeper than it is (including the dev with a yt channel). this is one of the few games along with F:NV and planescape to actually have good likeable companions even if theres a lot of them who are nothing like in F1 but the standouts are amazing ROLE PLAYING AND BALANCE: the ability for roleplaying is lesser than in other good crpgs due to the main quest arbitrarily locking you out of certain areas for no reason and many areas being places youll only visit once or twice at most. one of the most damning things for roleplaying however is the even more arbitrary decisions for what skills assign to what stats. a Thief will have to basically have to wait until around level 20 until they come into being a proper thief where as a fighter is set to go about level 6 due to fighting having only 2 stats, 2 skills which matter, Constituion & Strength, melee & dodge where as a thief needs Perception & Dexterity, Prowling, Pickpocketing and Picklocks. id recommened only to those who are interested in unique games. this game will likely never get a sequel and honestly if they did the returning devs would probably make it insufferable
the voice acting is stellar, I refuse to believe anyone who would (for god knows what reason) say its not, and the story for the 47 minutes I played was pretty compelling. the controls however are a different story, I would be fine with them if i could just rebind them to another key, but I cant. instead what you get is the option to add action to ANOTHER KEY IN ADDITION TO THE ORIGINAL KEY! I wanted to bind crouch to left CTRL instead of the original bind which was left CRTL to zoom in. when I pressed CTRL, both actions happened which became disorienting immediately, forcing me to back to the original control scheme I didn't like and wanted to change. Shadow Man is one of the worst controlling characters I've ever controlled: unbearably slow and has the outright worst jumps I've ever controlled. I swear he always jumps an entire second after I wanted him to, and he is in the air he goes so fast that its practically over as soon as he started. The camera is bad. I hate games that dont let you change the camera movement speed, but instead of the best option which is full control (allowing you to choose between 55 to 56), you instead only get to choose between 50, 55 and 60. this game also has the camera always no matter what i chose always be either too fast and loose to ever actually play with, or be too rigid and slow to move that its also impossible to actually use, or in the middle which the best option I could find at 62, where the camera was somehow both at the same time. only saved from 1 stars by the fact that the atmosphere, voice acting and characters were that strong.
