Schizm: Mysterious Journey

Hard as schizm

Very good, but hard adventure game. Gorgeous graphics and music. The DVD version had even better versions than the original CD version. I don't know what version it is here on GOG. As a game you will require to explore a lot and take notes. I mean, pen and paper notes. At least if you want to solve the game. You have a whole new world to explore with their own language etc. You can switch between two characters who have landed on different parts of the planet. Absolutely worth getting game, especially if you are looking for something with a challenge. The game is not unfair.

Mafia Classic

Great in 2002, Very good now

This review is about the game Mafia on the PC, but not the GOG version which I don't own yet. When the game was released not all PCs could run it with max gfx settings, but if you were one of the few who could, you would play in a gorgeous game which blew out of the water any other similar game. The graphics may not have aged well, but then again most 3D games do not age well. I still believe the graphics have aged better than other similar games of the time. The sound effects are good, not perfect, but good enough to not be an issue. The one major issue this game had was with the controls. It will take you some time to set the options to make the game feel ok to you. For anyone who has played PC games of the period (late 90s early 2000s) which had you control a character from a third person perspective, you will remember how they were mostly terrible to say the least, at least compared to today's games. The character would feel very stiff and the car would feel too sensitive to control with ease. That is the case with this game too. It wasn't a unique issue with the game, most 3rd person games were like that on the PC. But, if you sit down, try different settings and then stick with the game for half and hour to an hour, you will get used to it and finally manage to explore this beautiful fun game. Unfortunately many people are not willing to spend that time and give up on it. Their loss but with their negative comments/reviews they might make others not even try this game. That's a shame. As for the game itself, it follows the story of a couple of "mafia" movies, I won't mention which to not spoil it even a bit. You find yourself suddenly working for a local mafia family, doing missions for them and rising up in status as you do. Most of the missions involve driving somewhere and then shooting lots of people. There are some difficulty spikes here and there, but they are that, few spikes. Overall the game is fun to play and IMO worth buying.

DOOM 3

An underrated FPS

I have played through both the original release and the BFG edition of this game. While not a proper sequel of the first Doom games, it (and its expansion pack which is included here) is a great FPS game with horror elements. You will find yourself under surprise attacks, you will hear sounds from hell and not know what is going on, and you will find yourself having your flashlight (which lasts longer in the BFG edition and it works with any weapon) run out of charge on the worst possible moment. But boy you won't care! As long as you are not looking for an experience exactly like the original two games (or the latest reboot of Doom), you will find a solid, fun, scary at times, funny FPS game which is more than worth paying the price. I have it on PC (discs versions and digital) and PS3 and going to get it from GOG too soon. One of the top 10 FPS games of the decade, getting a very nice "remastered" touch with the BFG edition. Better graphics, various smaller changes, some gameplay changes like the aforementioned flashlight which now you can use it with all your weapons, etc. IF there was one thing I wish it would be different is to have an option to have the flashlight work as in the original release. But, that is hardly an issue worth worrying about. OK, the sound effects of your guns are a bit meh too, but after a while you don't care that much. IMO a Must Buy game. I recently did a Let's Play of the base game at https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLtpqh8ebqvxdUq6JsKDLvqCEK7giO1LrQ I am also in the middle (near the end) of the expansion pack (which is included in this package) at https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLtpqh8ebqvxe3xBS38h4IwMMnN06HTFhh Get this game!

Sudden Strike Gold

Tough

The game is like a less refined game of Blitzkrieg. If you have played that, you have played this (in terms of overall feel and gameplay). This is an RTS game where you do not build bases or anything like that during the battle. Unlike most RTS of the period. It goes for realism, which means tough missions, lots of repeats and grinding depending on how good you are. The controls are ok, but since it has more in game options/commands than the average RTS, it also takes some time to get used to them. The game has a steep learning curve. The graphics really suited the game, feeling very realistic at the time, and still looking pretty damn good if you ask me. If you find the Blitzkrieg series too easy, this will probably be more to your liking. I admire the game, it started several games I enjoyed, but I suck at it. If you like slow methodical real time strategy games where you and your units die a lot, get it.

Fallout: New Vegas Ultimate Edition

Great Fallout game

I played through this game several times. On my PS3 and later on my PC. The game is a great Fallout game. A 3D game, similar in view to Fallout 3. If you enjoyed F3 you will probably enjoy this one. As most games this is not perfect, but IMO it has nothing bad enough to even consider not playing it. The game is a more refined version of previous Fallout games, especially Fallout 3. My favorite part perhaps being that you can look down the scope with all weapons instead of the very 90s shoot from the hip view. As an RPG, a Fallout RPG, it is superb for what it is. You find yourself in an expected position and you start on a mission to get revenge. How you proceed and what you do is entirely up to you. There are so many things to do, both in main story and sidequests, that you can spend 100s of hours, easily. If you like Fallout, if you like Mad Max, if you like post apocalyptic settings for your entertainment, this is a must.

Not perfect, but what is?

When this game was first released it was a sign of things to come. The first time you saw footage of this game you just had to admire everything and not be able to speak. Several years later, as all 3D games, the time was not too kind with it. BUT, that does not mean the game is still not gorgeous to look at, at least in parts. Besides, there is far more to this game than good graphics. As usual for the series, you find yourself a prisoner given a second chance. You can focus on the main story, or explore. TONS of side missions and world to explore. The game has some negative parts, at least for me. I found the main storyline annoying to deal with. I won't spoil anything, but something happens from time to time you have to deal with or it will make your life more difficult in exploring the beautiful world of ESIV. What I suggest is to focus on dealing with the main story line so that then you have nothing to annoy you as you go ahead and live your virtual life in this world. There are many many missions to complete, side quests if you prefer, you can join various guilds and explore the many dungeons of this world. Combat is far more natural than in the previous games of the series, though not as good as in Skyrim. Still, at no point does it feel bad or awkward. Voice acting, music, visuals, gameplay, they are all top notch. Definitely a game to have. There is also one side quest I want to mention. One that has to do with a painting. This quest I found so difficult that it made me stop playing the game for weeks. Just make sure when you arrive at the...outside of this mission, do not get into it before you are very powerful.

Fallout 3: Game of the Year Edition

Great game

I will start with the negative. The metro parts I always found very annoying to navigate through. Especially since initially you need to navigate them to reach for the first time certain parts of the map. Having said that. This is a fantastic sci-fi RPG based on the Fallout universe. You come out for the first time in your life, outside a fallout shelter built before the nuclear war which almost destroyed the planet. Your goal is to find out what is going on with a specific person that went missing and deal with that and everything that is inevitably connected to that person. The game is in first and/or third person view, though the first person view is the best in all ways. (got to play new vegas for an improved third person view). You get to explore the wastelands that is the ruins of the American capitol and the surrounding areas. You will find interesting people and monsters to talk to or kill. Or talk and kill. Or just avoid. It's up to you. Cool weapons and artifacts. You can do this on your own, or with other AI companions you will find during your adventure. Including a dog. The game is huge, not perhaps if you just stick to the main storyline, but if you try to visit most places, it will take your 100s of hours. That does not include the very meaty expansion packs that are in this pack. Seriously fantastic game.
