Delta Force: Black Hawk Down Platinum Pack

Good FPS

When this game was released, I remember buying it back in the day, it was easily one of the most modern FPS. The graphics, sound, overall feel of the game was spot on. For a small period of time, this was the CoD Modern Warfare, before that existed. The game wasn't perfect, but it was enjoyable as a single player and multiplayer FPS. If you want to see what one of the best, but underrated, FPS of early 00s was like, give it a go. It is a fun FPS even now. If you think this is up to the level of later released FPS games like the aforementioned Modern Warfare...you might be disappointed. Go with an open mind and remember that when this game was released was easily the best modern warfare fps game out there. I give it a 4/5, for how good it was and good memories with it. This game deserved a 4/5 back when it was originally released, compared to similar games.

SWAT 4: Gold Edition

Be careful what you wish for

As with the previous game in the series, this is not about going all Rambo and killing everyone. There are procedures you need to follow on how to deal with the enemy. If you want a more realistic kill all shooter, this is not it. You will feel bored and unsatisfied with your purchase. IF on the other hand you want a shooter where you are a police officer (more than one but yeah) and you have to obey the law, try to arrest the suspects and only as a very last resort, shoot them, then you are going to love this. It's a great game, great gameplay, randomized missions, great graphics, but, make sure you know what you are looking for.

Fantastic arcade racer

Top down arcade racer. You can unlock stuff as you progress. The races have shortcuts and obstacles you can use to your advantage. Very similar, inspired perhaps, by games like Super Cars, only without weaponry. As I like it! The graphics at the time this game was out were fantastic. They still look good enough. Where the best part is though....the gameplay. It's so much fun to play this game. The combination of the feel of each vehicle you can drive, its looks, the various sound effects, the gorgeous tracks....you just don't want to stop playing. I first got this game in 1997 and I could stop playing it for the next 4 years (when I lost the disc). If you like arcade top down racing games, this is a must for any collection.

Sid Meier's Civilization® III Complete

One of my fav

Civ 3 Complete, is my second favorite Civilization game after Test of Time. IMO it is a great Civilization game which just surpasses its sequels for two simple reasons. While deep it is not as complex as 4 and 5 (haven't played 6 as of the writing of this). It doesn't go into religion other than the classic (civ) take on it which is just some buildings deep. I love that. In this game you take command of one of many nations, each with different specialized buildings and units and abilities, from ancient times (4000BC) to the near future. In the turn based format, your goal is to take your nation---->civilization and win the campaign. You can do so in the usual diplomatic, militaristic, etc ways, including the all classic building a spaceship and sending it to Alpha Centauri. Which victory path is available to you depends on how you want to play the game, how things go along and of course which options you have enabled/disabled. Speaking of options, you can choose planet type and age (amount of land-sea tiles, type of land tiles, size of planet, amount of resources), victory conditions, and the first time in a Civilization game, length of game. If in previous games in the series you felt you reached the 21st century a bit too fast, by choosing marathon it can take hours and hours to do so. Each turn is smaller in how many years it is, and research takes more time. This way you can play an epoch (e.g. Middle Ages) for many turns instead of what feels like 2.5 turns of the regular speed game. There are negatives in the game, mainly pollution and micro managing workers late in the game. There are good automated options for workers though which make it not as painful as it could. Overall the game is IMO very good and for the reasons I mentioned earlier, the last Civilization game true to its origins. A bonus point for me is the graphics which while not as detailed, they don't look like world of warcraft rejects. I love this game.

Crysis®

Very good but

Some story spoilers will be mentioned. Vague but still spoilers. not as good as the hype surrounding it was. I played this since the very first release on PC. Visually very good, sound too. The shooting mechanics are not the best for me. There is something that I can't explain, but, it just doesn't feel as good, as satisfying, as other games released around that time, for example Rainbow Six Vegas. I am not saying the game is bad. Far from it. The story is a mix of "modern day"/alternative reality with a small touch at first of sci-fi, turning into full on sci-fi later on. I have to say, as a fan of sci-fi (half of my movies are sci-fi), I enjoyed the story. It was well presented and a lot of fun to play through. Any negative points I have about the game have to do with parts of the non sci-fi story and enemies, plus a couple of bugs that the last time I played this game (a couple of years ago) were still in place. For example at one point in the first 1/3 of the game, you get to have a "mission" in a village where you face enemy armor. TWICE (different installations) I had to repeat this hard mission/objective (if you don't play on easy), because the game decided to not technically save the game after I finished it. TWICE. Fair enough, this particular bug only appeared in this section of the game, but it was still very annoying. A part that I call the BS difficulty of FPS of the time, when you are under attack by enemy helicopters. Other FPS games of the time used to have something similar. The type of mission where the enemy magic detection that can sense where you are and hit you with any bullets they desire regardless of anything that makes sense. Again this is thankfully just one relatively small part of the game, but annoying it is. For every negative thing about this game there are several more positive ones. It is a fun fps game, which modern PCs can run it just fine. If you like sci-fi and/or modern setting for your FPS, this is a must.

Mirror's Edge™

Depends...

If you like Super Mario crap on steroids (first person, more moves, etc), this is one of the best if not the best action game with jumping and all that ...stuff. Not a bad story either. If you do like that, this is a must buy. Dystopian future, your character using mostly parkour to avoid enemies and reach objectives. Beautiful graphics. Great controls. A great game....if you like that sort of stuff. If you are like me and don't like that super mario crap, then....this is a game which will quickly feel anything from boring to annoying, frustrating, etc. If you are an older gamer ask yourself this, when the first FPS arrived in the 90s with jumping sequences and puzzles, spread out in the normal shooting part of the game, did you like them or did you feel they were a big mistake that ruined the game? If you didn't like them, you are perhaps not the best gamer for this game. If you found yourself wanting more jumping, you will love this. Again, while the game is great for those who want this type of gameplay, it isn't for me, so I can't give it a higher score than 3 out of 5. I got bored with it and just couldn't push myself to finish it. It isn't that long either!

No Man's Sky

Great if...

It's a great game, or 4/5 if it runs and if you are expecting a survival game experience instead of something very different. No excuse for having a poor PC port, but I am one of the lucky ones who had only one issue which got fixed with the "fps fix". After that the experience so far (less than 10 hours in) is very smooth. Performance wise, it's running great. No slow downs, no issues whatsoever. The graphics could have been better, but what are you going to do? I was hoping for a game where I could explore star systems, planets, stations etc, in first person. It does that. I am of the generation of people who experienced Captain Blood and wished for something more. This is it. A combination of Captain Blood, Elite 2, Starflight and a touch of Mass Effect and Minecraft. It's not perfect, it's not the best game ever, but it is good enough. It definitely has more potential to make the world a more fulfilling experience and I don't doubt we might get that with DLCs. As is now, if you are not looking for a hand holding linear experience and are not suffering from technical issues, this is a very good exploration/survival game. At least so far. If you can't even run the game, this is the worst game ever. Good luck.

Singularity™

One of the best FPS of its generation

I played and completed this game a couple of years ago. It's a linear, story heavy, classic, first person shooter. It has elements of horror, but it is definitely not a horror game. It has elements of time travel and a spoonful of sci-fi. There are some minor puzzles you can solve with your special..."power". Thankfully not in levels which change the taste of what it really is. A fun shoot everything before they shoot you fps. I am not going to go into the story, it's better to experience it first hand. All I am going to say is for one reason or another you are in soviet land, at a time when the USSR has defeated the USA. Shooting mechanics in this game is superb. Not to be surprised considering who made this game. Raven is behind several awesome games. If you liked the feeling of shooting/guns in games like the 2009 Wolfenstein, you are going to feel right at home with this one. :) For me this is one of the best FPS of its generation. It's not a very long game, but it will provide a good 9-11 hours of classic fps action. I did a complete let's play of it a few years ago (not my best work), you can have a look here if you wish https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLtpqh8ebqvxcsuT87ocjNkns4QXAg4cZ5 but I highly suggest to skip it and just buy this game. Unless of course you do not like single player FPS games, then, obviously don't.

Infinium Strike

Very good so far

I have only recently bought this, played the tutorial and 3 missions of the campaign. I am writing this to help any gamers considering buying this as there are no other reviews here. Long story short, it is a tower defense game in sci-fi setting. I am not a fan of tower defense games , but the setting made me want to get it and I am glad I did. As with I guess any other TD game, you have a base on it you buy upgrades, turrets which automatically destroy incoming enemies. You do not have any direct involvement in aiming and firing of the enemies. At least so far. You get to choose what to buy and where out of 4 fronts/quadrants of your huge spaceship. You have limited resources which increase as you destroy enemies and as time passes. The enemies appear in one ore more of the four quadrants. Timing is the key. For example there is no point at the beginning of a battle (which always reset your defenses to zero) to start building and building one side of your ship, only to have the enemy come from another. To help you decide what to build where and when there is a radar of incoming portals. It shows you how far, if at all, an incoming portal is and to which quadrant it will appear. Depending on the color it can be one of 3 (so far) sizes. Which in turn can have different size and type of enemy ships. For example white portal bring the smaller ships which fight closer to your ship. You need to deploy relevant turret for them and not the huge cannons. You also have a variety of short lived drones you can launch when you have collected the relevant resource. These can be very powerful (& also upgradeable). You also have a special weapon/system which once charged (every 90 sec) you can use it. You choose what to use out of extra shields, powerful strike etc. So far the game is well balanced and not easy, at least on normal difficulty. I started a LP of it if you want to have a look. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLtpqh8ebqvxdorLwnWC4uUFAE3nrn1l-S

GUN™

Cowboy style

If you always wanted to play Red Dead Redemption but couldn't because you didn't have a console, this is the closest thing to it available for PC. The GTA 3 to GTA V of open world western (wild west) genre. Not the same, more like a poor second cousin, but still fun. Third person perspective works well. The shooting mechanics are good and accurate. The controls in general are at the very least acceptable, up to great, depending on what you are doing. The graphics though solid did age quickly as most 3D games released in the mid 00s. Nothing wrong with them from technical point, just don't expect a 2016 looking game. There is plenty of traveling/riding, random and not so random encounters. Side missions and story missions are all there. If what you see from the screenshots look good to you, then chances are you will be satisfied with the game. This is not RDR, but this is a solid game on its own right. If you like the setting, this is worth buying.
