This is an absolutely charming and fantastic game -- one of the best I've played in years. The world in which it takes place is beautiful, mysterious and melancholic, aided by a wonderful soundtrack and gorgeous visuals. The gameplay is absolutely tip-top and the way your abilities evolve through the game is perfect. It's hard, but not Cuphead-hard, and it's a manageable level of frustration that keeps you trying. I would highly recommend this to anyone who likes platformers and generally anyone who likes a polished game. One or two tips I would offer to new players that I wish I'd been made use of from the start: (1) Use markers constantly and use different ones for different things. You discover a fairly big world quickly, but you will be limited with exploring it until you gain certain abilities -- so no doubt you will find yourself forgetting about unexplored areas quickly if you don't use markers to remember to come back to things. (2) Take time to listen and read everything. The story is not presented linearly -- it's also unravelled slowly and bit by bit. It's tempting to just get carried away with the button-bashing and running to the next thing, but the story is great in its own right. (3) Rescue the grubs! They're just lovely, as is the Grubfather. All the best on your adventures, little knight. :D

Ah, this one was a childhood favourite. Tough as nails, clunky controls, but what a fascinating plot it had. On top of the story, the environments and atmosphere were captivating. Besides its flaws (let's be honest here -- how many 3D games in the early 90s didn't have clunky controls?), it was far ahead of its time and had some fantastic gameplay elements. Four stars, because it was far from perfect, but slotted some very vivid memories into my head.

An absolutely fascinating and engaging game. You are thrown straight away into the deep end, and your very choices from the get-go reveal the non-linearity of the plot. The characters, dialogue and setting are excellent and memorable. I remember playing it for the first time during a stinking hot summer, and yet the atmosphere of that New York winter blizzard got right into my bones. Without doubt, one of my favourite things in the last decade. Magnificent and inventive. Dive right in.

There are few games that I remember as fondly as LBA and its sequel. I've played both again at some point in the last 5 years, and they are still as wonderful as they were back in the 90s. Where LBA succeeds and wins one over is in the charm of the game: the characters, the story, the humour etc. There's an innocence in it too -- something that's been lost in gaming in recent years. A fantastic blend of gameplay elements combine to form an absolutely superb adventure game. This is a world to get utterly lost in. Do not hesitate to do so.
