Gauntlet™ Slayer Edition

Disappointment in every way possible

As an oldschool Gauntlet fan I cannot understand how the devs could fumble this game this bad. First of all, they removed one of the original four character from the game and replaced the character with a totally new character concept with different looks, different weapon and playability, while all the other three remained essentially faithful to their original concepts. Secondly, they practically removed friendly and easy multiplayer game completely: you cannot play with your friend on the same computer, nor you can link two computers together over LAN/WLAN. Thirdly, they messed up the visuals. The levels are dark. Very, very dark with dim light sources to the point it affects gameplay. Another gameplay affecting matter is screen shake, of what this game uses plentifully -depending which character you choose to use- to the point it gives the player head-ache. Level design is just boring. With no visuals (but darkness and shaky cam) and no real puzzles to solve you just plough through enemies and reach the exit. Rinse and repeat. As a Gauntlet fan I really wanted to like this game. Sadly, I can't. Every previous Gauntlet game has been fun to play, solo or with friend. But this game is not fun.
