The country was in a collapse when I was a kid so we started dealing with PCs a bit later. It took time for us to explore them and the possibilities. You know, playing with Word and Excell documents, Paint. And we had a couple of games, including this. My first years of playing this game I didn't even know what I was doing. It was more like taking crayons out of the box, figuring out what colors there are and like, smelling them and getting used to the feel when holding it. Just this year I figured out I could go back to this game and start treating it like a game and beat it. I did it and the little me is so proud of me.
I'm into DnD CRPGs and this at the beginning felt like lazy work. As the game progresses it gains complexity, some characters are put together really well. I lke to explore the environment, there's apsolutely nothing of it. Every footlocker is obvious to loot, there are like 5 items in a room altogether. But later I felt the game's pace was supposed to be faster, so I went along. The beginning of the game feels extremely slow if you happen to go more than several backs and forths (don't worry about medpacks that much, just stock up as soon as you find a vendor, don't plan on getting back). And I wasted so much time on Pazak just to figure out that all my wins didn't bring me anything to actually finish the game. In any case, I apreciate some interesting insights about politics from a couple of dialogues, I actually learned something from the game. I finished it so I can start playing the second part though, and I am just about to start it.
I have the Diamond Edition that's been pulled back, so leaving review here. I learned English with this game. It's so close to my heart that I feel it's integrate part of my childhood. There are so many better games out there, but this defined who I am in a sense. I think it's a great game to start figuring out your way through CRPG world. The story is epic and intricate, though it lacks depth. I feel it's like reading a comic book or a fun weekend novel compared to BG II, PS:T, that are like reading a Bible, or Dostoyevsky
I fisnished the 7th part and started this one right away. I saw some gameplay improvements, but I still haven't finished it. It's not that it's bad, it's just that I got tired of playing it, for months. I am giving 5 stars for those that want to start the franchise with this one. It's a good place to start, though I recommend the 7th more, for obvious reasons - the 7th was my first.
Oh, man, this game was so satisfying. Forget about the flaws and hardships, you can't imagine what my party's been through, and they stuck together. Yes, the mage was grumpy in the beginning, for dying that often, but after Level 15 or so, she was the party leader (the fighter didn't like it and she didn't care). The game just gives so much space for filling the gaps with your imagination and the stories and quests are fun.
It was just fun! I loved it! Don't expect Skyrim, but we wouldn't get Skyrim if it wasn't for Gothic III. Gothic III has pulled off some aspects, like the faction-character setup, There's just enough information to light your imagination. Much to do and figure out, so better hurry if you're into RPGs and FP/TP adventure!
I've been waiting for years to take the time and play this game entirely, and finally did it last year. A CRPG Masterpiece, for those that are into that kind of stuff. Rating the game and experience, EE was good enough for me, no crashes. I tried the original game (without mods) but it was too clunky. In any case, good memories, I enjoyed a slower pace game at the time, OSTs still put me in that mood, which is great. Playing the second part now, there's so much more content, but the first part was a pure brain candy.
I am enjoying it. The point is that I played the Original Gothic 3 way back in 2009, ten years ago and thought I'd give it one more go. I didn't watch and bought the Expansion by mistake and was nervous since most gave very bad reviews. I agree the game is buggy as hell, unbalanced, the easy difficulty is too easy and the medium is sometimes just too hard, the NH's character's a bit annoying, the other characters shift voices from different voice actors and so on. But it's Gothic! To me, at least. I just missed the game that I'm rolling with the punches. What I'm trying to say is that if you play this one before the original Gothic 3, it won't be as bad, especially if you never played it or played it a long time ago. Off to play some more.
