This really takes me back, is it complete, no. Is it worth it single player, heh, as long as the updates keep coming now and again. Stressing out to try and unluck the first unlockable was fun, reminiscing of the past at first was fun and as a short time killer is enjoyable now and again. Really this game is best for the multiplayer at the moment if you want to sink long hours with a group. It is just as fast past in terms in how fast a round or survival mode can go compared to Bushido Blade, minus the quick throw attack to end your friends who have never played. One well placed strike they or you are down. For multiplay quick rotational turnimants would be a blast and for single player only types, take what you read above for what it is. I mostly have been enjoying it alone and the short random burst have been fun even before the latest update. It might be more of nostalgia, but this subgenre of fighting games I have been craving for a long time to modernize properly.
There is not a lot to this game, but what is there is pretty fun. It is an rng type game for level generation and items. Your main goal is to maintain food for your little peoples and try and obtain new weapons that increase your power as the longer you last the harder the areas are. It is an over all simple game that is better to watch a video of someone playing to see if you would like it as it might not be for everyone, but like my self I quickly found watching the game play loop I saw it was going to be my cup of tea.
It is okay, but I would not come back to it after beating it. The game play is a simplified beatem up with some low generic platfroming (hold button and move to areas). The story is basic, but if you want experience social politics, your enjoyment may very. Honestly the game play is okay for the first run through, but it does not make me want to play again. The graphics and style are nice, it is just not my thing, it gets bland near the end.
As a note I started played this game on human (second level of challenge) mode, which might have influenced my play through compared to others. The game starts out pretty fun with a simple 2d combat that requires a lot of dodging and jumping. The upgrade system for the character and town are simple enough to grasp and enjoyable. You also can recruit units which does help at the beginning, but they quickly can be a crutch as later on (they do at the start also you just don't have that powerful of support to begin with) enemy typically come after you and you can easily kite the enemy and have your units pick them off. The game is addictive to start and it most likely my fault, but at about 6 hours in (it took about 9 to beat without exploring all areas) I got bored with exploring the areas and got to the point of just rushing the main quest (you can increase/decrease the difficualty as you play). The brief addiction I had playing the game is worth it, if you like 2d action games with a bit of management and loot thrown in, but your play my very depending on how you adjust the difficualty. As a side note the hardest difficualty which I thought would get me to go a second round and explore all areas did not work for me as the first enemy took about 3 to 4 min just to kill and kind of turned me off from the start. Maybe the 3rd level of difficaulty wound have kept me in the game, but honestly I would have had to play the hardest level from the start to really want to keep with it. Maybe after a long down time I might come back to beat the game on the hardest level?
This is a fun game, the quips last through out the game compared to the last, which stopped more or less half way through the first one to some extent. Compared to the first game this one has less of a linear approach compared to the last game. I would say this is a fps that would have a lot more value in coop. It has kind of a Borderlands feel, this game is 100% hub based compared to Borderlands. There are is more of a finite limit to weapons compared to Borderlands and that kind of where I got a little less interested and why the -1 star. Instead of collecting weapons with of varing similarity, but different stats it is collecting upgrades (relics or something like that). I don't know to some extent it felt a tad over complicated for what little noticable gain compared to Borderlands. From looking at guides though later on it seems the higher difficulty it probably maters. So over all it is a fun game solo, but for long term replayability I would recomend you go in looking for a coop exerience with friends if you want a longer experience. I got about 14hrs of fun solo.
The game is game is Banished like. It adds a bit more ease for micromanaging, when you have fewer people. I tend to play these games at the 1x speed and speed up every so often if there is completely nothing going on. So if you are someone who enjoys a slow pace, watching your civilization grow type of game where you kind of direct your attention to other things, but still enjoy yourself managing the outcome, this has a good number of hours of enjoyment. The UI is simple enough, the structue selection is intuitive and and is ease enough to learn. If you enjoy a relazing game like Banished, but want something a little different this is pretty enjoyable. I will say it does seem as though if you like to 8x through these type of games the content might feel a lot more limited, so keep that in mind.
The story was worth following. The action was enjoyable. The quips and eggs were some what hit or miss, given a bit lacking about 1/2 way in to the game. Combat over all was engaging, the main the really only issue I had was the game was more so an arena shooter. At the start you do not really notice it as you try and kill all demons to survive, but as some areas or control panels don't unlock it takes you out of the experience. That is where the minus one star comes in, if I did not have mastered the sword attack skills, early on in the game, there would have been a few areas I would have had to restart due to enemy placement. If it wasn't for the fact the 3 sword ability and my choosing it early on this game would be getting 3 stars. I recomend the Shadow Warrior over all, If you like the genre. Just be ware in some areas if you do not have the right set up you might have to restart due to enemy AI and the lack of ability to get to them if you dont have the right loadout.
I had little experience with the previous titles, so my judgement is based on this game alone. Overall for a car racing/combat game it has a lot of fun moments that keeps you coming back if you are into that genre. I liked the fact it was not just achievement driven, but it had in game unlockables. My main problems that make it not the perfect game, consist of the fact a lot of the vehicles seem to be hit or miss in terms of the usability. There will be a car that is fun to use early game for racing (or combat) and than later become opsolete later in game. This would not be so much of an issue if the controls for them all were not so varied. Since the game had an upgrade system it just seemed as though that it should have made it where if you found a vehicle you liked you could take it end game. The other issue is with how the ai worked. For the most part the ai is not a big problem, like in classic mode it is understandable that they mostly want to kill you. The issue is with check point mod, fox mode and the others where you could be in dead last and it seems like the ai just wants to kill you. It really takes you out of the experience of the event. The other ai issue I have is the police cars seem to only go after you. This would not be as bad other than the fact you are competing with other ai that like to slam into you when you are losing and than you have these cars targeting you like you are the only one. It makes some levels feel like you are playing two different events with an unnecessary disadvantage. In spite these issues I have put 14h'ish and plan to put in more. The game is fun it just has those moments where you will want to restart an event just because it seems like the ai is only after you and not trying to actually win.
The game is a vary short advanture (walking simulator?). The story is narrated relatively well with good atmosphere. The problem though is the entire game plays out in a way to actually get the story you have to interact with specific items. This leads to the game consisting of having to look at every letter and pick up a lot of random stuff to reveal a few of them. So the length of the game is a matter of how quickly you can rummage through things and weed out the useless stuff. If you can get the game at a DEEP discount or free like I got it, it might be worth a play through. However; I strongly suggest avoiding or just watching a playthrough for the audio files and avoid the cost all together. ********************************SPOILER************************************** The narration and atmosphere did not really go together in the end in my opionion.
