Delivers on every level. Highly recommended. I'm up to the third episode and I've enjoyed every second so far. I was (and am) a big fan of the movies, and the fact this picks up where BTTF3 left off it magic. Ignore the reviews griping about the graphics - they do the job just fine, and games should be about FUN, not eye-candy.
I bought this after reading the reviews here on GOG, mainly because I'm an old-school 8-bit gamer, and I love the depth of these kinds of games. I'd give them 4 or 5 stars from that point of view. However, the way the games store their save data is terrible. They write the data directly into the com (executable) file on exit, which means you lose the lot if your PC or Dosbox crashes. I put in several hours of play, only to get a message about incomplete save data when I tried to continue. There are batch files with the second game which take backups of your data before you run it, which helps a little. Obviously there's little GOG could do about this problem. It's just the way the game was written for those pre-hard drive years. My suggestion would be for GOG to provide a Windows front end which takes care of backups automatically. If they contact me I'll write it for them ... The first game also asks for a random code every time you depart the base planet. These are provided via a third-party program, but it's annoying if you accidentally land again (easily done).
When you're flying through flak in a slender metal tube you begin to understand the incredible danger bomber pilots put themselves through on a daily basis. I found this sim quite harrowing at times, and very realistic. (Review of the CD version.)
Forget your remakes with flashy graphics, my original TA game disks are the only thing I would save from a house fire. Sending in suicide troops to expose enemy installations on the other side of the map so you can target them with a battery of Big Berthas? The massive screen shake as you blow chunks out of the enemy base? The pitched battles where you have to defend your base from waves of intruders with choke points? Gathering scrap metal in the desperate attempt to build more laser/missile towers? Pure gold.
