This is one of the buggiest game I ever played. I bought the retail carton version, when it first came out and I couldn't play it due to permanent crashes. Now I installed the german gog version in software mode under windows 10 64 bit and I could play it several days until reaching level 17 with a mage char. In software mode I only had three crashes. Then I was suddenly attacked by my own skeletons and fighting spells! At first I thought that it was a curse spell of an enemy, but later I realised that the whole game is a curse. I tried reinstalling it with the same result. Without faults this game could be one of the best rpgs. It has nice artworks, awesome music, cool quests and enough loot. Do yourself a favor and beware of this game of bugdom!
Bought this version in a nice carton version, when it first came out and could sold it reaching mission 3. I got stuck due to a switch puzzle in a sewer and couldn't solve it. In this time era the other business was to sell guides in form of books. This time it ends in mission 6. Starting on level of difficulty middle, I later switched to easy. There are checkpoints instead of saving and only a few amount of lives for each mission. In mission 6 I had to use a cheat, because I didn't have enough ammunition and had to open doors with firing on special switches. I hate using cheats. To get to mission 6 I used the help of youtube vids as guides. Then I saw the solution to finish mission 6. You have to crawl into elevator shafts and garbage presses, which could be an innuendo to the movie star wars 1, which later shall be star wars 4. It is brainsick like the gameflow and puzzles in dark forces. When I saw this, I stopped playing again. Maybe I will come back later for the last time using cheats the whole game? In case of this I won't be able to change my review at gog. It's a shame, the programmers were all liars: why can't a game be easy on easy and hard on hard? Narcisstic love for their own product? Life is too short for a bad game concept. Why do you need beta testers? It is not allowed just to play having game fun: you have to do what the programmers want you to do. I wished there would be a community, which could make a playable and good game out of it. Pros: - authentic and pure star wars feeling. Playing it, is really amazing cool - fine story and presentation, good video sequences - state of the art graphics and diversified environments for a dos game - very good soundtrack, but I had to turn the music low due to nerving repetitive loops - playable without mouse only with the keyboard, which is hard, but manageable - big variety of weapons Cons: - weird puzzles - brainsick level of difficulty - not being able to save destroys the whole gameflow
NO! I tortured myself until mission 9, the second mission with an awful time limit on perverse level of difficulty weekend warrior and I will never come back. I often got stuck and needed the help of youtube vids. Pros: - good sci-fi presentation, okay story and good video sequences - nice synthie soundtrack, which I turned off due to permanent braindead loops - like in real life: where has all the money gone? To gog? They cancelled the merchant, whom I didn't regret. Unfortunately there wasn't a replacement for a funny actor like Weasel in another context. Cons: - one of the worst aiming in a shooter I 've ever seen, especially if you are directly standing in front of an aim - a totally flawed game plagues the progressing gamer with time limits in the last few missions and the countdown wasn't shown - the predecessor had huge levels: why not create them endless here? - why not let the silencer always run into traps, the player can't see due to bad perspective or which appear later on-screen? - why not let the player find less medical packs compared with the predecessor, which was difficult enough? - why not often build in electricity fields on the ground, which reduce life energy? - why not often integrate respawning enemies even mechs out of nothing directly from behind, sometimes in groups, in former cleared areas? - why not put bad to see obstacles everywhere not being able to move in combination with enemy attacks? - why not invent a helping sighting device in form of a red cross, which mostly doesn't work, when it matters? - brainsick puzzles, often hard to find or even hidden key cards, switches or corridors to go on, which remarkably extended the playing time - faster than the first game, which doesn't make sense due to clunky controls - some awkward lines of german voice actors like Kot rot, amateurish spoken by a wife or little children?
In my opinion crusader no remorse is a good game and not a very good one. If possible, I would give 3,5 of 5 stars. It was mostly fun at level of difficulty weekend warrior, but I don't think, I would ever come back to play it a second time. It's a very long and much too repetitive game. Pros: - cool dos action game - nice sci-fi setting and story line - good synthie music, but I turned the music off, because of the permanent and absolute nerving loops. - good arsenal of weapons, but I couldn't use the grenade gun. I couldn't figure out, which mistake I made. Cons: - absolutely bad aiming in a shooter. You need to save after nearly killing each enemy to be able to go on. - I often got stuck, mostly due to a red sensor I coudn't see often standing directly in front of it. I had to study youtube vids. This game dates back to a stone age era with no help like that in this time period and lame analog modems for internet services. - you need very good eyes to be able to find key cards - only buy it, if you are a good keyboard acrobat Now, I am going to play crusader no regret, which seems to be worse and even more difficult in my first impression.
I tried several times to get into this game without having success, because I always had problems to reach the next savepoint. Playing this game caused a lot of tantrums, because it is often unfair in every regard. I started on level of difficulty normal, reached the middle age and then had to realise, that I couldn't defeat a knight and a skeleton warrior. I then started new on level of difficulty easy and could reach the last levels with the help of youtube vids. The last levels are totally brainsick and awfull like the end of system shock 2. Then I had to use cheats to see the end titles. I think, this game didn't have enough beta testing in former times. The game has neat ideas, but the execution is often poor. It is sometimes fun to play, but I couldn't really give more than 3 stars. pros: - colourful presentation of its time - one of the few memorable dos action games - good soundtrack - big variety of ennemies - interesting game plot with varying ages and arsenal of weapons - sometimes fun to play cons: - clunky controls - often bad camera view - unfair savepoints - weird level of difficulty - hard to find secret rooms and bonus material - you have to look for secrets, but have to be fast due to time limits
Not being in discount at summer sale, this time I decided to buy a cheaper discounted version of this game from a competitor. It was a big mistake to wait for a sale at gog, because this game is awesome and an absolute must play. Pros: - moderate system requirements - playing a different side story like a movie of the terminator franchise - amazing artwork - interesting little tech tree to invest exp points - optimized in having game fun - perfect mixture of action, stealth parts and exploration. Not so boring like deus ex or the thief series. - being right in the middle of the action from the beginning until the end of the game - sometimes pure action firework - big variety in mission design - superb synthie soundtrack and sound effects Cons: - do yourself a favor and forget about it
... games I ever played: totally boring. Over the years I tried many times to get into Fallout 1 without having success. I know, it is always a matter of taste like reading enthralling philosophical doorstoppers. Of course you start as a nobody roundbased killing endless rats in a cave with a knife to save ammunition. Swing your knife and go three steps and press spacebar for the next round again and again as the principal element. When you get out of the cave you can see that Fallout 1 takes place in a wonderful desert wasteland in nice brown colours, with other grey and nice brown colours and additional different brown colours. And yes, there exist desert fans in the world, whom I commiserate. In general I could live with this artwork, it's not its weakest point. Fallout 1 includes a lot of different weapons, armours and other items to use, which makes the game interesting. I wished they had used realtime instead of roundbased for the combat, perhaps with the possibility to stop the game with pressing spacebar and giving orders. I had to use walkthroughs to be able to fulfill some of the quests. I didn't know what to do, where to go in big unclear maps, how to use items and so on. Oh, this is what old school means!? You have to find everything out on your own? Mmh, other players shall use forums or fallout coffee parties? Understood! Often special events weren't triggered. To make the game even more complicated they add a daytime management. The brilliant humour didn't really ignite. In this time era a game had to include humour like Monty Python to get rewarded with positive awards. I gave 2 stars for the atmosphere, the idea behind it and the sound recording and wished they instead would have made an action oriented game out of it to have some fun. Hmh, I am not allowed to criticise the programmers concept? Pooh!
After approximately 33 hours in the game I reached the end titles. I didn't solve a lot of side quests. The game ends with a horrible boss fight. Without the help of youtube vids I would never have been able to play through. I needed several attemps over decades to get familiar. The game has some weak points, but in my point of view it is a milestone of gaming industry. It always feels like a console port, but a very good one. It is filled with lifeblood in each corner. I don't want to debate a star. Pros: - charming colourful presentation - collecting mania works - pressing spacebar you can pause the game and give orders - good soundtrack - good story - good voice acting - interesting char building concept - possibility to use special buttons in the hud for spells - diversified gameplay - the game ran stable on each windows system I had - low system requirements Cons: - confusing to get the orientation in main city Lenele - you often don't know what to do next and where to go - often complicated quest goals - sometimes bad overview - without help of youtube vids I would never have reached the end titles - often too much to read - totally awful last boss fight without having the possibility to save
... with a with a good variety of enemies. I couldn't play through the gog version alone, because I still had the well-known submarine problem even on windows 10. Reaching a special location, you have to go on driving a submarine. If you have too much fps, the lowered submarine explodes and the game ends. Really! You have to load a special filter program or the additional free dash faction program. Dash faction offers higher resolutions like 1.920 x 1.080. The game consists of a corridor world in a sci-fi setting on Mars. In some missions you have to use vehicles, too, which brought some variety in mission design. The strongest point of red faction is the big arsenal of weapons, you can use. I love the synthie soundtrack, which is unfortunately not part of the offer. I didn't like the boss fights, the mini-games and the missions with a time limit. Better buy it cheap in a sale, because red faction is a short fun shooter for in between. I played it a second time, but I won't come back again.
... of the Gothic franchise. What shall I write? I just killed the end boss with the help of a gladly game fault. He was freezed, sticked to another enemy and I could wipe him out with a bow. Hooray, it's over, I don't need a further attempt with my weak built up firemage in this situation. Before this end boss the firemage was a real killing machine!? I played on difficulty hard. This game has average outworld graphics and absolute big and ugly dungeons. Most of the game the artwork is really bad. The soundtrack and sound system is nice except the awful dialogues of the people standing stupid around in this world. Most time I clicked the mortifying story plot away. Forget about the primitive mission goals. Story and goals were fantasy cheap goods. Does anybody know if Setarrif uses the same magical scroll like in the dungeon-crawler stonekeep? Why not carry endless loot like weapons, armors, potions, collected raw materials, gems, ... ? You must have a magical 40-ft-container on your back and you can easily fight, jump and roll through this world with it. When I reached the first merchant of the ugly city I already had a hundred close combat weapons, which I could sell for a few health potions. Fighting against the varying bestiary is always the same, but brought some fun. The chosen magician could kill most enemies with fireballs or with fireballs and sword in the last part of the battles. The game looks like a construction kit with it's endless corridors. I don't know why I can't change my reviews at gog? I would now give the main game Arcania 1 star more, which means 2 stars on the whole, but not for this Setarrif standalone.
