It's a shame. It's like a dying love, advent rising has it all: wonderful, colourful artwork, a very good soundtrack. Varying. cool enemies and boss fights, except an awful giant ape. Fast, intense action with guns and mighty powers. More power than in the whole star wars universe. A good story. A few times vehicles like cars, gliders and so on to add some variety in the mission design. Unfortunately it works very faulty under Windows 10 64 bit. In sooner times I could play through using the retail version under Windows XP, which had problems, too, but not this time. I had several desktop crashes and often stuttering music and sounds. In regulary intervals the view was flipping around or to the top of the screen. In a few locations I couldn't jump straight on ledges, which was necessary to go on. After a while I found out that I have to run sidewards or backwards and then jump to proceed, which was totally nerving. Despite these technical issues I had a lot of fun, but the game ends in a boss fight with the mentioned terrible gorilla. I couldn't focus, catch and throw back stones. I tried everything: other tactics using different might powers, I searched for a cheat to skip this awful mission, I tried other keys in a fight, ... At last I gave up.
After seiing some screenshots and reading very good reviews I was totally triggered and gave it a try. I played several hours to get an impression. I love this gothic brutal sexy graphic style. Technically I had to choose a resolution of 1.024 x 768 and middle details to be able to play it fluently. Despite that chosen resolution I had several crashes and other technically glitches. In my opinion the inventory and the menu to buy weapons needs much more polish. It is not shown or clear why I can't buy special weapons deeper in the list? I played the first two locations several times and that was fun, after that the combat started to remain dull and tedious. In the third location I had to change to the easiest difficulty story mode. The game reminds me to painkiller with picks. Often It throws endless boring waves against the player. I would say the game is moderate at most, the graphic style is gorgeous, but the game mechanics are nearly bad. It would have been better to choose another genre for this concept of game. How about a hardcore card game or a fighting game with a gothic match 3 style? Please consider that in the future. I think, it is important to support this kind of adult games to get more stuff like this.
After 21,5 hours forager classic mode divided into many days I suddenly stopped playing. I had skill 36/64, 34/49 islands, hero quests 28/103, ... Till then I had a nice time, suddenly everything turned to become repetitive, boring and dull. Should I invest more time to be able to see the rest of it or not? I think, there are much better games out now and I decided to kill this game from the hard disk and I am not willing to come back. To me it seems, that the game was artificially lengthen or that they didn't put enough resources into the long test phase. Forager is a cute litte charming and below average game with minor faults. I would give it 2,5 stars, if possible. The pixaleted graphic style adds some character. At first the sound track is nice. There are only a few tracks, which were repeated in a permanent loop. Be warned: sometimes hours after playtime I still had the main hypnotic melody in my head. Buy it cheap in a sale and have some fun for a while, but don't expect too much.
... or not Gothic?! Really? I mean, seriously? The biggest disaster with Arcania was that I could start it on my pc. Technically it works with small issues. I played it for 4 1/2 hours in game to get a picture. The start was nice, but later I had to realise that Arcania is only a kind of construction kit or concept, not a game. Did they employ computer students of the first semester to create it? Put three goblins here and three goblins there in the pampa. Let's counterfeit variation and put three or four bloodflies here and there, but not again wolves like in the beginning, because that would be too obtrusive. You can fight each creature in the same way. I watched youtube vids to find out that they fight bigger creatures in the same way at the end of the game. The beginning was challenging, I started on difficulty normal. Later I switched to hard and then to difficulty gothic, but the combat remains boring and dull. Fights in hack & slay rpgs like diablo II & Co. have much more substance. Does anybody know if everywhere exists an assembly line for bad rpg quests? Arcania is the real paradise for thieves: you can go into a shop, open chests and you can sell this stuff to the merchant, who stands 2 meters away without any penalty. I read, that you can roast steaks directly in combat or manufacture healing or mana potions. I didn't try this, because at that point I decided better to kill this awful game finally from the hard disc.
Actually playing an old doorstopper of roleplaying game I urgently needed a break and started with huniepop. Normally I don't play puzzle games, this time I couldn't stop with this match-3-style. The game is shining with its clear and bright colours. The wonderful soundtrack is spreading a good mood and has a very relaxing effect. Some people will criticise it as elevator music, but I love this music and had to buy this amazing soundtrack, too. The dating part with the archetypes of nice girls adds some humour, the game didn't take itself seriously. I can higly recommend it, because I had a lot of fun with the playthrough.
After 15 hours in the game I refused playing. It became too tedious. I didn't finish a quest to bargain with a dschinn. You have to run around endlessly to earn money to be able to level up, which costs too much. The music was nice, but it was absolutely nerving due to a permanent loop which works like torturing brainwash. Fortunately I didn't get diarrhoea playing it like in a real desert eating food which was sprayed by contaminated nile water. The artwork of the game is beautiful, but it was cloned in all areas with minimal variation. The story is sparse with a small quest system. Travelling from city to city you will always get the same random little events. The economy system is simplified. You will easy get into the game with it's good controls. The game runs stable with no crash. It is repetetive grinding to level up heroes. In the beginning the mini dice game for combat and bargaining was fun, but it became boring, too. Caravan is a below average game with good ideas, but bad execution. It is only a concept of a game at all. The permanent awful grinding destroyed the whole gaming pleasure. I really can't recommend buying it.
In the past I tried several times to play the german retail version of this game. Then I found the english version on gog and hooray it worked the first time! The game has a very good atmosphere and soundtrack, especially the wonderful song the battle for freedom. To fight against soviet troops in New York was a refreshing scenario. I don't need further world war II shooters, which is the main theme of comparable games. The game was optimized in having game fun with integrated tactical elements of giving orders to friendly soldiers, which adds additional atmosphere and works fine like the controls. I had problems to understand the saving points, but lastly I managed it after repeating endless mission goals, which was fun again, too. I like the cool, but simplified graphics of Manhattan and other parts of New York which remind of Max Payne 1. The game consists of pure action from beginning to the end with no boredom. It has a big variation of mission goals and arsenal of weapons. I like the winter levels. Please add more stuff like this.
Mirror's edge has a beautiful bright, clean and colorful graphic style. Standing on top of a skyscraper and jumping to other obstacles and buildings is unfortunately totally unrealistic, but pure gaming fun. The futuristical synthie soundtrack is brilliant comparable to the amazing graphics. Technically I had to choose a much lower resolution, because the ventilators of my pc always went load even on 1280 x 768 or so. I mean the game is from 2009 and I bought a powerful pc much later?!! The game has a lot of frustrating moments, often I had to repeat the same passages dozens of time. The boxing match with an assassin and gun fights were extremely tough and time consuming. Unfortunately you can't save when you want and a few times the savepoints were set very unfair. The controls work fine after absolving a lot of training. The way through the missions can be indicated by pressing a special key and and important obstacles were colored in red. In my point of view mirror's edge defined a new era of jump & run games in 3D and is an absolute must buy and play. One of the best games I ever played, I felt fully enthusiastic the whole playthrough.
Played earned in blood before. Earned in blood has better graphics, more action and faults, road to hill was more polished. I found both games excellent at all. I played on normal difficulty which was hard enough. The atmosphere, graphics and sound system is very nice. Giving orders to friendly soldiers works. The levels are more or less linear like corridors, often you have to find the right way to beat the game. There is a lot of variety in the missions, you have to attack or to defend special locations or sometimes there are tanks included on both sides. It feels like fighting in a war as an infanteryman. The battle overview map was superfluos. I didn't use it, because it made no sense. There a lot of cineatic vids to narrate a story like the typcial war movie. I started to hate the military leader of the protagonist in the szenes: do this, do that, he would give cover. The typical pencil pusher, but that is realistic like loosing own soldiers. I wouldn't play this game again on harder level. Technically the game runs smooth, I didn't have a crash or other faults on windows 10 64 BIT. Most of the game was fun, I don't want to rebate a star.
This game is an amazing blast like the cool protagonist, who is well spoken. I often had to laugh about his sayings in the tradition of dear old Duke Nukem. The sabouteur is a kind of Mafia nazi resistance clon in old Paris with the possibility to climb buildings. I already played the retail version when it first came out. Paris was good presented in a mix of film noir effects and daylight colours. I love the simplified races of beautiful looking vintage cars and silver arrows. The view is changeable to engine hood. The game was optimized for action gamers with having fun in focus and diversified mission goals. The controls of the game work fine. It has nice graphics and good chansons of this time era and beautiful looking french girls. I wished I would have had the same nursery like the protagonist. Fair savegame points and level of difficulty were set, I played on normal. Awful puzzles weren't integrated. The game has a big arsenal of weapons included and a good choice of places of interest. I count six crashes under windows 10 64 BIT, most of them leaving the game. It was necessary to restart the pc. Despite of these technical issues the game overall is an absolute must have.
