I own the original version of this game. Sadly, I kept it on the shelf until right before multiplayer ended. This was a lot of fun and a great journey. My only complaint is that things respawn incredibly fast and as you have to traverse the same areas repeatedly, you end up fighting the same monsters over and over and over again. If there was a way to slow down the respawn, I would give this game 5 stars. And with the multiple characters and builds, there is a lot of replay value.
I'm not sure how people can give this game a good review. Yes, it has good graphics, for its time, but it is literally impossible to play without dying a million times. I had to resort to GOD mode, which keeps track of how many times you die. It's A LOT! It wouldn't be so bad if you could actually SNEAK. But, nope, sneaking is virtually useless. And once you have been found, EVERYBODY in that area knows where you're at, no matter where you go. Enemies can shoot you through solid objects or from a cliff half a mile away. Horrible game. I only gave it 2 stars because of the graphics, but it really is a piece of crap. Not being able to save is also a big issue. And it can sometimes be difficult to figure out where you are supposed to go. I hope Far Cry 2 is better!
I see a lot of people gave this game high marks, and that's fine. It WAS made well and is interesting and different than any other game I have played. I just didn't really care for the insanity aspect to being in the dark and the game is 100% linear which makes it utterly pointless playing it again as absolutely nothing will be different. I would recommend catching a gameplay video on youtube. The game will be exactly what you see there. If you think you'll like it, you probably will, and vice versa. Had this game had replay value, I would have given it 4 stars. It IS a good game.
After nearly dying very early on I had to switch to god mode. You face a bunch of ranged creatures early on when all you have is a staff, and they rip you apart before you even can reach them. Trying to figure out where to go was a bit of a pain with too many keys to search for. The environmental physics at being able to move things around is neat, but doesn't make up for the rest of it. I gave the game a 3 because it is decent, just boring. But you might like it.
So I just finished Shogo. When I got to the end and realized it was the end I thought "that's it?". Not much of a last battle. The game itself was playable and OK enough to get through. The graphics were poor and a bit dark in places. It was often difficult to figure out where the enemy fire was coming from. And it was sometimes difficult to figure out where you were supposed to go. I got the game when it was on sale. I definitely don't recommend it for the normal price. And I can't really recommend it for the sale price. But, if you should happen to buy it on sale, it is probably worth the 3 bucks. But you won't miss out if you never play this.
