Super boring opening, spongy enemies, no strategy required, just run and shoot. Game doesn't explain things then punishes you later like the charges you get, you'll need them later to open containers, so if you use them in combat, you won't be able to open containers, and you cannot backtrack either so the game design is super lame. Some enemies are simply designed to annoy you and while there is some fun to be had, it gets boring very fast. Dual weapons are a headache and require an extra button press every time you cycle weapons, no way to just set it to auto dual. Like why?! This is so annoying and makes life harder on purpose. Also, they went full on vehicles, typically a bad sign in a FPS game, and yes, they all suck, and the battles suck and a total borefest. Enemy mechs are so weak compared to the foot soldiers, it takes the fun out of the mech vs mech fight completely as you just back and fire salvos of rockets while the enemies run at you from like hundreds of meters away. 3/5 if you want to kill a few hours and get it on huge discount.
I was really looking forward to this game, and while it's part of the GOG preservation program, it still doesn't work well. This is the only game, that in years, hard crashed my Win 11 rig, and I mean to the point where you cannot open the program manager properly to close the down the game manually. I'm not sure what is going on but after the second crash (which was when I tried to load my save file), I cannot recommend this. I love these older titles, but with newer systems, they just don't work all that well. I don't think this is a simple fix either, these kinds of maintenance updates have to come from the developers, not GOG. A few hours in, I had to uninstall it, I cannot risk my computer as I also work on it, and hard crashes are never a good thing.
This game crashes non-stop, it's past the refund date, stuck with this dud now. I have Windows 11 and it won't even get past the intro story, so I cannot even get to the gameplay. I updated the game, disabled full screen optimization, still nothing. I think this game should be taken OFF the GOG store and properly retested until it is working properly. If you're looking to buy this, don't.
Get it on sale, and it's a fun arcade game. Now, for the reviewer who said there was no controller support, get an Xbox One controller, it works flawlessly with this game (or any Windows game for that matter). If you have a controller from other brands, that could be the issue. It would also help if you are running the latest Windows. For other users, if you run into the problem of not finding a save game option, actually, the game auto saves itself between episodes but doesn't tell you this. This freaked me out the first time I played it. Next you boot it up, just go to Start Game, and click Continue, and it will load the stage that you have currently reached. The one last thing, and if anyone knows, please review and provide the info, the firing button, if there was a way to lock it that would be nice, for me, having to button jam like crazy just isn't as much fun as it used to be, and its the reason why I'm taking a point off for now, cause you know, we're getting old... Have fun all!
If you have a computer that's a least a decade old, skip this, it won't run on Intel 10th gen and above, and while there are workarounds of some sort, they require technical meddling with Windows, which is never a good idea. Lesson learned, buy retro games for retro consoles and get the physical media. These digital games are not that great, and I didn't even try it for a few months because of backlog, so no refund is possible.
Again, really want to play this, but it just won't run on Windows 11, I think its possible for GOG and developers to mention which Windows version it will run on and which graphics cards, modifying something in like adding permissions in the technical side of Windows to some unknown part of the device manager is NOT a way to solve the problem. Either game needs to be updated by the developer, or a clear disclaimer needs to be added. I'm sure its an awesome game, but I am forced to try the refund route for now. Once they update to Win 11, I will buy it again.
Really wanted to play this, but on Windows 11 Home, this thing crashes on the very first text screen title, and it doesn't just crash the game, it crashes the entire system with a 30000 series GPU requiring a hard restart (CTRL ALT DEL doesn't do anything, it won't let you even get into the screen where you END TASK), and the Windows key won't minimize the game either. On Steam you would get a refund, here, I won't bother asking as I don't think GOG even offers any type of refund. Waste of money down the drain, won't be buying old games on here, as this is SECOND time a game was completely untested and sitting on GOG as if its a viable game.
