Grim Fandango Remastered

Gamebreaking bugs...

There are some areas in this game like the tree farm in the first chapter whre the screen darkens a little and everything stops. Reloading the game anew doesn't fix it. If you don't have a savegame from shortly before that area, you are just out of luck and can play to that area anew and hope for the best... Why this is still in a remastered edition after all those years is beyond me...

El Paso, Elsewhere

More Noir like this please

This game was a pleasant surprise. Imagine Max Payne as a vampire hunter. It's clearly a low-budget indie game so don't expect too much environmental or enemy variety but what assets there are have been used well and with artistic sense. The writing of the characters was great. Inspired me to seek out more neo-noir fiction. I was very entertained and can recommend this game to any fans of Horror Action games. It's not perfect though. The Max Payne Dodge and Bullet Time mechanics feel a bit tacket on (only two regular enemies use ranged weapons), as was the Max Payne-esque "run scared while recovering your weapons that were taken away" level. I hate those. Also, the two boss fights could have used a bit more time in the oven. Especially the mid-boss seems to have some remarkable hitboxes on his swords. Also spawning in adds behind the players back in such a high-damage game is just fiendish. Apart from the boss fights i found "intended" difficulty rather easy though and i completed the game in a bit more to 12 hours.

RoboCop: Rogue City

This is what AAA should aspire to be

NEGATIVE: Not perfect, some "puzzles" in side quests are a bit obtuse and some enemies, especially bosses are simply bullet sponges, but... POSITIVE: They did right by the franchise, the nostalgia, the characters, the style, everything is spot on. The shooting is fun, you feel like Robocop... Finally a good non-indie game. The first of that kind I played in years.

Chained Echoes

badly balanced

It would be a great game if sometimes you wouldn't get trapped in situations with fights you just can't win without making the game easier through the options menu. When that happens you usually can't even go back and grind or get better equipment, like for example when the party was split in chapter 1 - Victor, Kylian and Rob get out of the caves with the lorry ride and the Mountain Bibis were just unbeatable. And you can't go anywhere else from that point on, you just have to play on easy mode for a while. Exacerbated by the fact like in that instance you are forced to use characters you don't like for a while and haven't paid as much attention to as to your "mains".

Tesla Force

feels cheap, plays cheap

I liked the original (Tesla vs Lovecraft) a lot, which is why I bought this one too. It looks like it reuses ~80% of the assets from the first game, so I don't feel the price tag of 15 bucks is justified in the first place. Unfortunately, Tesla Force puts a new new Roguelite spin on its gameplay, which makes it feel extra cheap. If you don't clear a world completely through, you have to restart it from the beginning, no matter how many of the individual levels you cleared. Combine this with hardly any weapons spawning in the third world, practically forcing you to pay for a better starting weapon for every single run, and one soon gets the feeling that this is a port of a cash-grabby mobile game. If you are looking for a good twin-stick shooter, check out "Tesla vs Lovecraft" before this one.

Knights of the Chalice 2

Great DnD game, but buggy as hell

If you enjoyed the first game or Temple of elemental evil and the like, this game will make you happy - if it works well enough, that is. The option menu seems to be changing its selected options whenever it feels like it and currently I am stuck in the early parts of the game because a consistently game crashing bug prevents me from progressing. Not nice. I can just hope, an update will fix this issue soon because I really wanna play this game all the way through and then some.

Star Trek™: Bridge Commander

Good Idea for a game but bad execution

AI of your bridge crew constantly flunks out, i.e. not firing or using tractor beams despite the player having pressed the respective buttons, stopping manouvering mid-battle for some reason and constantly presenting the already damaged rear to the enemy and so on and on. Also no manual was included with the download and the in game tutorial apparently leaves out a lot like how to target sub-systems. Speaking of which, Tutorial-Picard and the other crew constantly talking all over each other does not help. In short, there doesn't seem to be any doubt as to that the right course of action during the missions is. It is just what buttons to press or why the crew are not executing the orders despite the buttons being pressed. This makes for a very frustrating experience.
