As far as the graphics/performance and so on, the game seems to be fine for the early access. With 18 hours in game I only suffered two crashes, and one was during exiting of the game. My problem is not that "it's not like old BG", my problem is that it's too much like Divinity Original Sin. Way too much. I have spend some time not that long ago with DOS-2, and frankly got bored with that. When at every turn I see how this BG3 is more like DOS3 makes me disappointed. As far as the gameplay experience - this just feels too much like I'm back to the last Divinity game. Even plot wise - let's compare - you find yourself on a ship, after someone performed some nasty procedure on you. The ship is under attack by something and you need to fight your way out to the top. Finally as you reach the designated destination, everything crashes. You find yourself on the beach, and can now find back few of companions back from the ship. After few moments you arrive to some sort of civilization. Now your priority is to have your collar removed and escape. Later you find out you are "a choosen one" (Like all your companions) and of course you are absolutely vital to save the world. That's the DOS-2. Now here, well let's not get into details - to avoid any spoilers, but here-and there you do have the feeling of a recycled plot. The combat looks and feel just like DOS, with maybe some different spells and values, but so much of the basic mechanics remain the same. And I'm already feeling tired of this game. Even though it's just part of the full game.
Interesting idea, but it quickly becomes a boring and irritating grind-fest. In fact seems like a discarded mobile game with pay-to-win intentions, that never got to the stage of implementing stuff worthy of buying for real cash. Each dungeon your character starts from level 1, and 0 eq, which gives you feeling of starting each "mission" over and over and over and over again, even if you change the dungeon. The characters ''battle scars'' that the experienced dungeoners get seem to be at least questionable, or downright crippling.
Whole 3 Maps, annoying flood/spam hero tactic to ramp up the difficulty. Instead of something clever we are given a simple grinder, where the challenge comes from spamming you with the constant waves of powerfull heroes. But lets face it, unless you are unlucky enough to open up the spiders and dragons at the same time, there is no problem with enduring that. Next time you can restart and avoid the monster cache, or funnel the heroes through their dens. It feels like playing through a random map with a bit of a twist. Only worth it if you are already bored with those.
Well, So far I have been playing the campaign, and must say the game itself is quite enjoyable. The dungeon building and defense is nicely combined with the conquest above the ground. Also switching from "Above" to "Underground" is quick and natural - with single click on the appropriate mini-map. The storytelling is a bit annoying with rather forced humor, that seems to be directed at younger, immature audience. Kind-of "Wohho, lets's do evil evilly" kinda style. It sets this goofy mood for the game. I suppose it is continuation of the style, but I rather would have the DK more serious and sinister mood. The interface looks nice, but on the other hand a bit clumsy in use. For example the way the creatures and spells building and traps are accessed - by panel that needs to be opened, and once open is taking a HUGE amount of the screen. It is hard not to compare it again to DK where you had things practically directly accessible, with small and clear icons. The creature management could have been better - for example there could be some clear indication whenever it is above or underground, and with more creatures the management gets a bit more annoying than it should. They could also have something like a survival instinct - for example they could at lest try to flee when overwhelmed/low HP. But the most important thing is, that while Dungeons 3 is far from perfect, Overall in-game experience is very positive.
Well, I bought the game because I remember how much fun i had with the Privateer one. Sadly this game is such disappointment. As a sequel in terms of gameplay enhancements it adds just some tiny stuff like more ships, but cripples a lot more. You no longer can carry cargo on your ship, you have to hire cargo-ships. And you basically have to guess what products to buy and sell where. I thought that the plant info that is in system should at least give you some general idea about what should be profitable trade wise, but it's just full of some unimaginative trash. The missions are pretty annoying, especially those different than seeks and destroy - sometimes failing without reason upon arrival to the mission system. The scan-line cut scenes are just pure ugly and annoying. I wanted to skip the intro after like 10 seconds. And just how is it possible that this dos game has so pooor performance ?!? I mean it's not full-hd extreme setting, it's VGA, there should be absolutely NO REASON for the choppy frame rate when bigger objects come into view.
