Terminal Velocity Legacy

An archetypal old-school shooter

For not being very unique, Terminal Velocity remains an oddly compelling and fun game. The visuals serve well, despite their age, and I'll take its rock/techno soundtrack any day over the loads of games that try to evoke a sense of action by poorly imitating John Williams (though the game does have several "cinematic" tracks). The gameplay is simple. Use a variety of lasers and missiles to destroy objectives, bosses, fighters, and anything else! These worlds are completely infested with robotic evil, so no one will yell at you for having an itchy trigger finger. Just remember to incinerate an occasional supply depot to collect the necessary shields, ammunition, and afterburner fuel! This game is candy, not a full meal like the oft-mentioned Deus Ex or Thief, but as you fly through the explosion of your last objective, punch the afterburners to break through a swarm of fighters and warp out of the level just in time to watch straggling enemies fire helplessly at your escaping ship, you'll remember that candy is still pretty good.
