I was looking forward to this game, but oh dear... what a disappointment! You're dropped straight into five simultaneous interviews without any setup whatsoever. You don't know who you are or why exactly you're here. All you know is that you're supposed to ask questions about... something. The only way to get anywhere seems to be to make random guesses until the game highlights some keywords for you. Then you retype the keywords to, hopefully, get another answer. After that, you're back to random guessing - or, more likely, using the help function. The tracking of questions/responses is confusing and poorly organised. At times, the stars that indicate the need for further questions disappear from the interface without reason. Occasionally it feels like you're onto something, and you become engaged for a few seconds, but then it's back to the grind again. I gave it an hour and a half, then threw in the towel. Despite a very appealing performance by Aislinn De'Ath, I couldn't even be bothered to complete the first act - and I normally love FMV games.
I played Detroit: Become Human on PS4 a few years ago and loved it, then bought Heavy Rain and was considerably less impressed. The negative reviews for Beyond: Two Souls made me hesitate before buying it, even at a bargain price, but it turned out to be a lot of fun. Yes, the controls are a bit fiddly at times (though with an Xbox controller it really wasn't too bad), and yes, it's more of an interactive movie than a traditional game. But it's involving, and the non-linear narrative works really well. The plot gets a bit daft at times, but I thoroughly enjoyed my 10+ hours with the game. For the £3-something I paid, it was a great buy.
