Pretty good for a shooter. Reminds me of Doom but with a medeval setting mixed in with some Hexen elements with no ongoing story.. But what makes it unique is the rougelike aspect with procedural levels, perma death, and tons of unlockables. A really fun game.
I have logged over 200 hours on this when I has the steam version, but abaondoned steam and switched to gog due to steam's unsafe games and bad policy ethics. I love everything about this game from the music especially the fall and winter themes. The people have realistic dialouge instead of anime tropes which is a big relief. The ability to choose either sex for a romantic partner was a very smart move on the creator's part because it leaves you with freedom of choice and open mindedness. My favorite part is exploring the mines. I already reached the bottom but can go even futher down with staircases. Some of the crops that make a lot of money take a long time to grow but it's worth it in the end.. And best of all, the game has so many secrets that you will spend months trying to find them all. If you want to immerse yourself in another worls, then Stardew Valley is for you.
To me, It's the best sci-fi space visual novel series I've ever read. (Besides Stein's gate.) Also the strategic battles are a blast. I have all three of the Sunrider series but not from GOG. The best part is the one-liners the girls say in battle. Especially Asaga's "Fly my children!" The series is full of memorable characters and the entire series is full of plot twists. Mask of Arcadius and Liberation Day are the only two that carry the main story though.
I owned this game for the N64 when it first came out. The GOG version plays so much better than the original. Buttery smooth unlike the N64 version which was very choppy. The replaced rendered animated cutscenes with voiceovers is a nice surprise unlike the N64 VN style cutscenes without voices. The controller I have plays nicely with it with better controller mapping. The most fun was tripping up the AT-ATs in the first level. The jetpack part was fun too. Not a bad star wars game for it's time.
I have played this on the PS2 a long time ago but was only formatted for compact disc instead of DVD-ROM which drove my PS2 motor to the point of smoldering. Now it's on PC and no worries about moving parts. After I got past the launch issues and controller enable issues with the helpful hints of the forum, it now plays beautifully with no issues. The podracing in the star wars universe in this game is well expanded on. With different tracks on different planets, choice of different pilots and upgradable podracers, cutscenes, and the original sountrack from the films made it one of the most immersive space racers of it's time. The game starts easy on the first tier, until you beat it, then as the second and third tiercome up, the game gets harder. Racer was the best racing game in the star wars universe, and with all the immersion, it's podracing at it's best.
