This game is interesting, the concept good, and the graphics appealing, but there are no words to describe how bad the UI is! Inventory management is an outright nightmare. Keys are so confusing that whenever I use a skill I have about 50% chance of switching character by mistake (and vice versa).
I should give this game 0 stars for portraying barbarians as the good guys. How dare you???!!!??? ;-P If Roman legions invade you, you should be thankful! Jokes aside, the game is an interesting concept (more a graphical novel than an RPG, IMO) and well designed, both in terms of graphics and game mechanics, as far as I've seen in the demo. It's not really my cup of tea as a game, but I'd definitely recommend trying the really nice demo to see if it's right for you.
Endless and repeated unskippable cutscenes? That's a dealbreaker already. If that wasn't enough to put you off, both gameplay and plot look extremely simplistic (admittedly based on less than 1h gameplay). It might be ok for a children's game, but children would want modern graphics I suspect. I don't see any specific appeal nor any reason why anyone should play this game in 2024.
The game is not too bad, considering its age. However, a few hours into the game, my character is constantly lecturing me on how to be a good Chinese man and an honorable civil servant! Is this a game or a Chinese reeducation course against drinking and bribery? I would give this game 3 or even 4 stars, if it weren't so preachy...
I'm sorry bit I don't understand all these glowing reviews. The game has ugly and confusing graphics, bad weapons, bad enemies, bad UI, and the camera sways as you move, giving you nausea. Plus, it completely breaks with previous Heretic/Hexen in graphic style. I really don't understand why anyone would want to play this game. I didn't like it when it came out, and I still don't like it today.
The game is great, but the respawning enemies are so annoying! I could maybe understand if it happened in one particular map, but the whole game? No way! What exactly is the point of me killing enemies if they're going to respawn a minute later? Am I just wasting my mana? If I've cleared an area, I want it clear, ok? There should be only corpses. Worse yet, there are legions of slaughtaurs everywhere, constantly respawning, and they take forever to kill. So moving around is a constant chore of slowly wading through, one step at a time, one slaughtaur with his shield up at a time. I would have given this game 5 stars, but I took one away for the respawning and one for the respawning slaughtaurs.
The game is fine but not amazing. It feels a bit like a cross between Hexen and Doom, but it's not nearly as good as either. Your biggest enemy is actually yourself, since half the weapons do area damage, which can backfire spectacularly in close quarters. As one other review pointed out, gargoyles get constantly stuck, which is annoying, and the arsenal is not paricularly exciting. The two supposed top weapons (life leech and voodoo doll) are disappointing and almost useless. If you've played all the Dooms and Heretics too many times and you're looking for another old-school shooter where you blow everything up with explosives, this game might be for you. Get it on sale.
I like the mythological setting and the game is fun, but I absolutely don't appreciate being strong-armed into buying DLCs. It took me a while to realise it, but if you're playing the vanilla version, a significant portion of the loot generated is apparently for Ragnarok. You cannot use, pick (or even see) these items, so in effect you get significantly less good loot compred to someone who does own Ragnarok. Not cool, devs! This shady choice is indefensible and it would be elementary to fix. If you think that Ragnarok is so essential to the game, bundle it all together and sell it for a single price. If you're going to sell the two separately, then vanilla players must be able to enjoy the game without being harassed and penalised. It's not ok to sell people a supposedly standalone game, only to have them find out that it's actually been sabotaged and they need to pay extra to enjoy it as it was intended.
