I've never really got into any dungeon crawler type crpg's like this before, but always kinda wanted to. I picked up this one recently, and have found myself playing it every minute of spare time i have... i'm completely obsessed and addicted to this game now.. When i'm not playing it, im thinking about it, and even thinking about how i could build a different party for a second playthrough, when im not even half way through the first. I never do that. It's a little more modern than most old dungeon crawlers. You dont have to click the little arrows to move in a strict grid pattern. You just freely move around the world with arrow keys and mouse. I play it with a xbox controller set up with Rewasd. It works great. The voice acting is top tier. Absolutely awesome. Story is great and unique, a crazy amount of different classes and races you can be. Including very different and unique classes like a Mook (think giant yeti wookie), rawulfs(wolf men), cat people, fairies, dragon men, lizard men, hobbits, elves, etc etc. Everything you want from the classic tolkien type races and also wild unique alien races. It is a little easy to get lost sometimes. But a quick google search usually remedies that fine. Some people have complained the 3d models look crappy. But i find them charming. For its time, they were great and even today, i think they're awesome. The portrait art is fantastic, and ANIMATED. I know,, it sounds corny and lame at first glance. But it grows on you immediately. Your party really comes to life, their looks, and voices, personalities, it really immerses you in the game. Trust me, its one of the best parts of the game. It's my first introduction into the Wizardry series, and so far, i love it. Can't stop playing. Ok,... going to go back to playing now... bye
Not sure why this game has gotten such bad reviews and reports of it not working. Almost didn't buy it because of that, but it was on sale for like.79 cents, so i figured i'd go for it. Runs totally fine so far. Went through the first tutorial part, smooth as butter and no problems at all. Plays with a keyboard and mouse, (or just keyboard), the key mappings are a little wonky to get used to, but you can change them in game menu. Not as good as Legacy of Kain, but still a decent game and worthy of at least 4 stars.
A worthy successor to the Peter Molyneux classic, Dungeon Keeper. If you enjoy keeping dungeons this game is for you. Although, not without its faults. I'll start this review with the bad. I was a bit disappointed to find that some of my old favorite minions such as the Bile Demon, troll, and Horny Reaper did not make the cut (from what i have seen yet) although, they did include some worthy replacements. Also, green imps threw me off at first... took a while, but it grew on me. The first 3-4 levels of the main campaign are a bit frustrating. They throw enemies at you very quickly before you can even get your dungeon up and running, and they don't give you very much room to create your nice and tidy 5x5 rooms. It's a bit off putting, chaotic & stressful. But... if you can get through those first few intial levels until you get access to the prison, torture chamber and crypt,.. that's when things really get fun. The amount of different rooms, potions, rituals, powerups, secret buried treasures, and in general, helpful thingies... is awesome. Lets you get creative and allows you to replay any dungeon in many different ways. All in all, it's very different from the original Dungeon keeper, but also pays homage to it immensely. Improves upon it and expands upon it's idea. Lots of fun. Lots of levels. Lots of minions. And loads of features. Manually save every once in a while though. I haven't came across anything game breaking, but it has crashed on me more than once.
I really thought I would like this game... I really did. I loved the Icewind Dale games. But for the love of all that's good... I could not even get out of the god forsaken tutorial area!, everybody talks so much.. and everybody has that horrible scripted, boring goody goody two shoes voiceover...and they all talk about crap that hardly ever helps you at all.. Right from the get go the game forces you to be some "apprentice" or "student" or some crap, and you have to trudge through so much bullshit and tutorials just to get to the adventuring. (I'm guessing,, because i gave up before I got that far). I'm sorry.. I have a lot of respect for these types of games, but this one just bored me and frustrated me to no end.. I tried to play an evil character on one of the expansions, I got down to the room with that fairy creature....asking me a bunch of stupid riddles.. it prattled on for WAYYYY too long.. I mean my god.. i just want to play the game, maybe kill some enemies or something, i don't want to solve math questions with a god damn fairy. Good thing i bought this one on sale. Wish i could've played a demo first or something. I'll just stick to good ol' Icewind Dale, where the characters have,..character, and the adventures are ready to go whenever you want them.
