This game seems fun on paper, until you play it and realize it has improperly tuned and balanced weapons, enemies and level design. Pros: - The graphics are pretty. - The soundtrack is very cool. Cons: - The story is almost non-existent. - Shelly's voice acting is kinda bland. - The weapons aren't properly tuned and balanced (revolver single shot is too weak and alt fire too strong, shotgun fire rate is too slow and spread too tight, crossbow single shot feels too weak etc). - Many of the enemies are either bland (armed grunts) or annoying to deal with (spiders and flying drones). - Health pickups are too few for many levels and armor pickups are too many but too small. A single shot taken can drop your armor from 100 to 0 and most pickups give only 1 armor. - In the original campaign there's barely any ammo pickups for the minigun.
Amnesia: The Bunker has some of the best horror and level design ever done in this genre, it's worth checking out by any horror fan. The game also has lots of configuration/accessibility options and plenty of replayability due to traps and items being in different places each time you start a new game. However, there are a few rough edges that prevent this game to reach the masterpiece level: - The story is very superficial, which limits the player immersion. - Player actions don't feel very responsive, as in animations not starting right the hell now and not being able to cancel what you're doing quickly. It's a horror game and the character should be able to drop what they were doing to react to whatever is happening in an instant. - Guns have too much sway. I had to restart multiple times because I was missing shots on locks at a few meters away. Aiming while standing still for a while should be precise, there's nothing fun about missing shots because of randomness mechanics. - Storage box has a limited space, yet you can pile items on the ground around it as much as you want. To me this makes not sense, the storage should be endless and sortable, similar to how the newer Resident Evil games work. - I personally found the game's contrast to be quite low, which makes the game look blurry on my 1080p monitor. Contrast and brightness sliders would have been great additions to the options menu, again similar to how the newer Resident Evil games work. A lot of these issues could be addressed in a patch. I hope the devs will consider fixing some of these issues in an anniversary patch of sorts, that would be really great.
This is one of the most unique FPS games, where tactics matter and the real challenge is to clear the levels without killing anyone while also not getting hurt yourselves, which is quite hard. I hIghly recommend playing this game with the SWAT: Elite Force mod which fixes a lot of the bugs and technical limitations of the vanilla game while also adding a few quality of life features!
The remastered version of Quake 2 comes with every campaign ever made for the game and then some. The graphics look way better than the original, the enemy AI was improved and there are lot of quality of life features added. I absolutely love the addition of muzzle flashes and hitmarkers, it makes the gunplay feel so much better! The inventory and weapon wheels are also very handy, making item management less clunky. The only missed opportunity here I feel was the inclusion of a true centered weapon option, with model rather than making the gun invisible when 'centered'. Also, the new Berserker ground pound area of effect is a bit too large if you ask me, I was rarely able to avoid the damage when dodging it. For the multiplayer I love that they added crossplay and that nifty voice chat reader. I had way more fun than I was expecting while playing it. Well done Nightdive, you guys truly are the kings of remasters!
I really like this game's concept and atmosphere. Going through the ages is fun and the maps feel quite atmospheric. Unfortunately it's a bit rough around the edges both mecanically and graphically. Still, I cannot deny the fun I had playing it, so if you are an RTS fan I encourage you to check it out. BE AWARE: The included expansion does not get a shortcut upon installation, you need to launch it with EE2X.exe from the game folder.
The story line and progression of this game are some of the best you'll see in any RPG, and the combat looks more entertaining than most other tactical RPGs out there. Too bad it's being held back by technical issues, luckily most of them can be adressed with mods. I dream of the day Bioware announces a remaster of this game like they did with Mass Effect.
One of the better games of the past. The controls might be a bit janky, but I can completely ignore that in favor of the incredible atmosphere this game has. It's a mix between vampire and nazi themed horror with some sexuality thrown in. Somehow it works pretty damn well.
This game is a love letter to the horror genre and one of the best classic FPS games I've ever played. I wasn't expecting to enjoy it as much as I did, but it has become my third favorite FPS from the 90s, after Half-Life and Counter-Strike.
