my first review, a bit confused but i cannot resist. argualy one of the best CRPG and one of the really few that have something to do with the pen and paper RPG... and we are not talking of rules (a near perfect trasposition of the 2° edition gdr) but the atmosfere, the dialogs, the possibility to almost completely avoid combat for 2/3 of the game not by sneaking as a rogue, but by talking your way around the adversity! a game were you could pass half an hour listening on a conference on the infernal planes for the mere sake of exploring and experiencing the fantastic background. The Story: You awake in the mortuary, with no memory, and a friendly flying skull that call you chief :) You find an exit and start to explore Sigil the wonderfull city at the center of the multiverse (and some other planes) you start with a strong desire to know who (and what) you are and gradually grab pieces of what you have been (and done) in the past, and try to pose an and to your curse. The designers tryed to make a game different in every respect from the usual D&D, some examples (certainly not complete): - combat frequently isn't necessary, with high enough Wisdom/Intelligence/Carisma you could have dialog option (options, the choice is always yours) to solve problems without fight. - practically no armour or standard D&D weapons (swords), instead much different kind of weapon (punch daggers, maces, dentures... (yes dentures :) ) ) and protection and empowerment (earrings, tattoo), strange charms and cures, different spells. - many radically different companion, with some of them you could have various interesting conversation, exploring their past and their connection with you - the main locations aren't dungeon or wilderness but the streets of a strange city where daemon and demigods drink at the table near you :) graphically is based on the engine of the first baldur's gate, with a certain zoom in, noting exceptional, but there are patch for widescreen resolution (do not know if included in the gog version) it's not a game for you if you usually skip the story and run in the fight hope this confuse mess of a recension is of any use :)
