There is nothing specifically wrong with this game it's just been done before to many times. Go out explore, kill monsters, complete quests, gain experience and gold, level up and get better equipment, kill bigger monsters. I got bored quickly.

I've been playing Fighting Steel for years along with the FSP add on but it is very dated. I've been looking for something more modern so thought I would give this a try. I started some single battle scenerios and checked it out. The graphics are nice I will give the game that. The turn based format took a little getting used to too. But the mechanics of battle are just horrible. Each ship fires once per turn. Have the designers never heard of rate of fire? Or am I missing something? That is a huge part of surface combat. I assume each ships fire control capability is factored in when the firing solution is calculated? Also, there does not seem to be any way to fire both primary and secondary armaments in the same turn. Still waiting for a tactical game that doesn't play like an arcade game.

I got this hoping it would be an improvement over Fighting Steel. I played Fighting Steel for a long time but I can't get it stable on Windows 7. I have the latest Fighting Steel Project installed. That game is far superior. The graphics are dated but the camera views are better and the tactical control and data are far better. Data tables told you the different damage from the various guns and torpedos. This game doesn't even tell you what the range to the target is? Fighting Steel felt like a simulation. This feels like an arcade game. The developer just put something together that was pretty but does not seem to have much substance, a real shame.

I did not get this or the other two games in the series on GOG I played them a while ago. They were the best shooter I have played. The rpg aspects of the game add a lot to the experience. The original release of the game was supposed to be very buggy. I would recommend installing the "complete" mods. I did and found no problems at all with the game.
