BATTLETECH + Shadowrun Returns

A brilliant tactical strategy

I've spent about 6 hours with the game so far. I had quite low expectations, and I'm happy that the game has exceeded them. Good: - There are a lot of mechanics in the game: obviously, tactical battles and mech loadouts, but also ship management, contracts, pilot upgrades etc. - The combat is complicated enough to be fun. You have to mind heat level, positioning, terrain, you have to keep your mechs moving. - The difficulty is just right so far. Even the first couple of story missions didn't feel like a super-easy boring tutorial. Your first contracts will be easy, you have to build reputation to get to the difficult ones. But even there you have to be careful, because an unlucky shot can well cripple your pilot. - It's a matter of taste, but I do like the cutscenes, and the soundtrack is pretty good. Bad: - The game feels sluggish at times. A lot of UI actions take a second to work. This can be especially annoying in the dialogues with NPCs. - The battle UI could use some work. Sometimes I still issue a move order by accident or choose the wrong facing direction because my mouse cursor just jumps for a split-second.

Legends of Eisenwald

A great game for HOMM/Disciples fans

A mix of King's Bounty and Disciples set in (more or less) medieval Germany. The first impression can be somewhat off-putting, because the graphics and animations look simple and feel outdated for at least 5 years. Nevertheless, once you get past it and get into your first quests, the engine doesn't really matter anymore. After the tutorial map the story picks up quickly and the first full size campaign map is very entertaining. If you enjoyed Disciples, HOMM or King's Bounty, and you don't mind simpler graphics, I would definitely recommend this game. Bonus points for including an excellent Belarusian translation!
