Populous 2 is the best god game produced by Bullfrog. It is also the best god game currently available, so stop reading and buy it if that's the sort of thing you're after In case you're completely new to god games, you basically play the role of a divine observer who cannot give direct orders to the people below. However, you can use magical powers to help or hinder those people, such as by creating a tidal wave to drown them all. In Populous 2, you generally begin by magically raising and lowering the land, creating a flat plane for your chosen people to build on. As your people grow more numerous, you become more powerful and can use greater magical powers. Different missions involve different selections of magical powers; there are a lot of powers in the game, and as you complete missions you can put your experience points into the powers you like the most. You are not alone, however; there is an opposing god with chosen people of his own. Ultimately, there can only be one victor, and the game becomes a fun combination of protecting your own people and hurting the opposing god's people. I have played this game on and off since it first came out. There's not much else to say about Populous 2, really; it is almost perfect at what it does. There are a few annoying little quirks, and perhaps there's not enough diversity between missions, but really the game is great how it is. Populous 2 is a classic.
Darklands is one of the best RPGs ever released, and possibly my favourite game on GOG. The graphics and user interface are of sufficient quality that a new-comer can still feel comfortable playing the game today, and the game itself is just as enjoyable as it was all those years ago. Darklands is a game that I enjoyed the first time I played it, and it is a game that I continue to enjoy whenever I revisit it. In fact, I am able to review it today because I was actually playing Darklands during the two weeks prior to its release on GOG. There is a certain feeling of freedom that makes the game seem new each time you play, and the setting itself is just perfect.
