Loria Demo

Thanks for the difficulty settings

Damn hard game, but can be adjusted so that's nice. Definitely some glitches (hero froze for a good 15 mins). Yes it is a warcraft clone, play the demo before you buy. More warnings when buildings being attacked please, should look over and see all of my defence towers destroyed and be surprised by this. Game has charm, with a few fixes this would be a 4/5 for sure, full game on wishlist... watching... watching..

Warcraft: Orcs and Humans

Beware nostalgia blindness

5 star ratings that say 'i remember playing this a lot' will not really inform a choice for new players. The controls have not been updated which is an insult frankly. I really do like this game, but if you're new here, skip this, go to Warcraft II which is a far more functional and enjoyalbe game, highly recommended.

Amnesia: A Machine For Pigs

Excellent narrative, horror setting

Connection with Amnesia the dark descent is minimal/non existent. The previous game was lead by atmosphere, gamepley and had a narrative to back it up. This game has atmosphere and narrative, with gameplay to back it up. It's much more straightforward, no inverntory, less monsters, less consequences/challange. If you're ok with a 'light' version of gameplay, then this is fantastic, but if you want the gameplay to lead, as it did in Dark Descent, you may be dissapointed. I would say both games are equally well made, but of different styles. This can be enjoyed without the previous game being played. I recommend it.

Kingdoms and Castles

Delightful title

I love Knights and Merchants, Settlers 2 10th anniversary, just for context. I initially didn't like this game due to the graphics being simplistic lego characters. But after 20 mins I foundit a nice, relaxing delightful medieval city builder. The options are great, you can build a city with no enemies to practice, or if you don't like military action (which does wear thin after a while, but is still fun) or you can play with dragons and vikings which respawn reguarly, on easy or normal difficulty. So far I've only played it on easy and have enjoyed the chill action, relaxing music and delightful town, and yes the graphics did grow on me. If you want a really detailed, in depth military Real time combat, this isn't for you, if you prefer city building with some combat, this is well worth a shot.

Painkiller Black Edition

Fantastic fast paced action

Never heard of this game until a couple of years ago, played it through 4 times worked my way through the difficulty levels. Finished it on hardest level. I say this because I NEVER do that. I normally play on normal only, rarely hard, NEVER on EXTREME or HARDCORE etc. It takes time to adjust to the gameplay, hence why I say I had to work my way up, but fast paced, good enemy and map variety, visceral weapons, alternate fires etc. Excellent stuff, highly recommended.

Unreal 2: The Awakening Special Edition

Hidden Gem

I only heard recently that there was even a sequel for that classic original. If you're in the same boat, you want to know: I liked Unreal, should I play #2? Yes, think of this as Aliens is to Alien. ie first is smaller, more moody, better atmosphere, but the sequel is bigger without going overboard, more action oriented. You have missions where you command marines, give them orders, place defences. Mostly it's just you versus many different enemies. The writing is solid, surprisingly funny and full of character. Your crew are well rounded and have their own stories that you learn along the way. Sometimes shooting is a bit off, and too many weapon choices per mission, but otherwise this is one heck of a ride. I would say Unreal 2 is more 'fun' than the original, although I would still consider the first one a more well made game. Just be prepared that it's different and you'll love it, just like I did!

Neverwinter Nights 2 Complete

Aged, but well made

FOR CONTEXT: I never played the game when it was new, or indeed ANY RPG's of this make or model. I believe the game is very good for its day, so if you are into this style and era, then I DO recommend it. However if you're getting into older RPG's I would say this is not an ideal entry point. The camera is frustrating, the story is now cliche, characters archetype, but again, from the era it's a nice example, but since then, we've come along way. Graphics of course have aged, but that didn't bother me, characters and story are what it's about and I've seen better since. You can craft weapons and magic, there are several campaigns, and MODS, oh my so many MODS. I only tried the one where people made the Baldur's Gate in Neverwinter Nights 2... very very impressive, but given that I had just played Baldur's Gate a few months ago, I actually didn't see the point... but that's just me. In summary, yes I said only 2 stars, but keep in mind, if you already know what this game is about (era and style) than it is very good, but if you are trying 'new' things as I was, I would say 'avoid'. MODS give unlimted hours of joy.

Vampire: The Masquerade - Redemption

RPG/Gaming exp= well below par

Eerg.... Ok, first off, I have no idea of the back story, this was a comic.. book... I don't know.. JUST reviewing this as a GAME. So I played it years ago and was intruiged. Returned to it recently thanks to GOG. Basic problems: Bugged up the arse, can't walk without your team mates getting in the way, your team members get stuck in doors regularly. Dialogue is choppy and disconected (ie you go a long time without info, THEN get a heap of exposition, which can refer to things hours ago or even 800 years ago) Must use mouse for camera and action, so you can't rotate camera with WASD, and attack with mouse (keeping in mind the age of the game this makes sense, but still an issue) It's VERY difficult, you have great powers, but magic (blood) is very $$$$ and you can't let loose and enjoy the powers you have, Instead you have to click click click, stab stab stab, and hope for the best which is basically ineffective as the game progressess. The writing is great, but it's poorly executed, the story is good, but it's doled out in bits and pieces and ham fistedly. If you have no idea about the story behind this... I still don't.. the big Question is: IS THIS A GOOD RPG? Answer: no. Even for its age it's OK at best, better RPG's since. I only kept going because of good characters and story, but it feels like a chore. NOTE: good ratings (4/5 stars) are from people who like the back story/franchise.... so ONLY get when it's VERY cheep, or not at all. Shame, had good potential.
