it's not as colorful or as flashy as modern RTS games but there is fun to be had here. is it the best real time strategy game i have ever play? no, not really but GOG has sales all the time so give it a shot when it's on sale, it might not be for you, but i really enjoyed myself playing this game.

one warning though, i owned the rom version of this and had the same problem, sometimes when you boot this up it will be running hyper fast (unplayable) so you have to exit the game, it might even do it the second time as well, if so then exit the game and try again, game should be running normal now...i have no idea what causes this but that is the solution to fix the problem. this game is great on very low end pc's but the game hasn't aged very well, the blocky low poly count models are noticeable, but make no mistake, this game is fun!!!!! so just to clarify if the game is running too fast then exit the game and return to the desktop, now start up the game application again( problem should be solved )if not might take 2 or 3 attempts?

fo3 vanilla is just an OK game, many problems, all kinds of crashes and framerate suffering and various other issues, but the good news is that there are all kinds of mods on nexusmods to take care of those issues as well as just make the game all around better. you can lose yourself for months just adding mods and trying them out, if for no other reason get this game just because of the active modding community. for those of you who are having the crash on startup problem it's probably because you have one of those crappy INTEL HD GRAPHICS cards, and guess what...there is a mod to fix that as well, i think it's called a bypass package. so when they have their next sale why not grab it and give it a try?

if you have ever had the misfortune of playing the Ps2 version of this game or the one before it rejoice because the PC version is better. the game is starting to show it's age what with the lower poly count character models and what not, but i boot this sucker up every once in a while and play it on the big TV via a HDMI cable and it is pure bliss for me. i don't own any of the modern battlefront games with their fancy modern visuals but i don't care because this game is good enough for me. why only a 3 star review you ask, because the developers could have given us all kinds of extras to play around with but did not. also i am not a fan of having to shoot a target more than once to drop them as a sniper class, snipers should be 1 shot = 1 kill, none of this shoot them 2 or 3 times to kill them crap.

as much as i love the idea of controlling a mech that can transform into a fighter jet i find this game hard to get into, very clunky control for me. and i get the feeling this game is going to feel old real quick, you pretty much are doing the same mission types over and over again. it's OK but only get it if it is discounted like 80% or 90% off, well...that's my review.

it is really hard to give this game an honest review after having played System Shock2(an awesome game) because it's sequel is better in every aspect. i find the controls here clunky and the game pace too slow. i remember being more forgiving of it's flaws back in the day when first playing it but after you play a gem like System Shock2 it's really hard to go back and enjoy this one. you might like it? i would wait until GOG has one of it's sales and pick it up if it's less than a dollar or so, that way if you don't like the game then you are only out less than a buck or so.

there is no doubt this is a very good game, but there are game mechanics that i just don't understand? for example in Skyrim if you are an archer and you crouch and are undetected you can get a 1 shot kill, but in this game it doesn't matter if you are crouching or not so you will still have to empty about 10+ arrows into an enemy to finally drop them....so what is the point of crouching/stealth in this game? there is no point. so it's little things like this that take away the enjoyment of this game a bit. anyone know of a good mod to fix this?

i am more of an RTS guy myself, i like to build bases and defense towers and offence units and go at it with an enemy AI, this is just a STRATEGY game. i know many people will say that i'am wrong and that this IS an RTS but i disagree, if anything it's a hybrid, so let's just agree to disagree. if you like strategy games then you will enjoy this game, but if you are looking for a real rts type game then get SUPCOM or TA.

this game has a real BEEN THERE DONE THAT feel to it, and there is nothing wrong with that. this type of formula has worked for a very long time. so if you are looking for a very generic 1st person NAZI slaying brainless shooter then this game is for you, but just be aware of the TASTES GREAT LESS FILLING factor. i used to love simple 1st person 3d games like this but for me they just aren't enjoyable anymore.

i remember years ago when i had a 486DX266mhz PC and i saw this game in a PCGAME magazine and i began to drool thinking about playing it but could not play it because i did not have a PENTIUM computer, well....i have a PC that can run this game just fine but it isn't winning me over, really tacky and silly, i'am sure there is a great stealth game in here somewhere but i don't have the patience to find it. many gamers like this game though? you will probably like it, but as for myself...it just didn't get me hard.
