This game looks cool, with a bit of 8-bit flavour to it, but not too much. The sounds are good, the music is good. It plays way it plays is easy, the game itself is quite hard. Only some controls are annoying, such as handling the doors to open and close them, but that's already nitpicking. This is a fresh look on this sort of rogue like games, almost revolutionary. If they add just more diversity to everything, and make it a little easier, or add a difficulty option, and have it last a litle longer, possible endless, this would be epic.
When this was released it was by far the best in depth RTS i found. It had resource management per character, concerning weapons, ammo, etc. It had cover, buildings could be blown apart, and the chunks of building could be cover. You could have some great tactics with this, go full out (bad idea), plan ambushes, or go even more stealth. It looked great, and actually, still quite does, though dated. It has a few minor control flaws, but they don't come by often. And yes, hard is HARD !

Settlers 1 and 2 were and always will be the best of the bunch. Settlers 1 got it right mostly, but 2 made it look a little better, and polished controls and made it play more fluently. This game is exactly the same under the hood, all the same way to play, but the graphics are better and in 3D, the music is very nice, somehow it doesn't start to annoy me at any time, and it also has a map editor. As a nice extra touch they gave several different races a different look as well. This is not hardcore RTS, almost not at all, it's not hardcore resource and building management like Banished. This is good fun, not too hard, but don't slack off too much, or you will go wrong. If you like anything Settlers, or not too difficult resource management, with minimal RTS, this is for you. It could be slightly better if they expanded just a little bit, but not too much, it shouldn't lose it's core or go RTS, like most other Settlers games did.
