Turbo Overkill

Amazing

I actually found this while searching for Ultrakill, and well, this was available and that wasn't. I do not regret a thing. This game feels like what some Deus Ex games should have been like (or at least the combat portions), if they had been inspired by Doom Eternal. My favorite "boomer shooter" is Quake 1, so as long a game entertains me just as much or more than Q1, I'm cool with it. That being said, I've seen a few games try extremely similar concepts while failing miserably. So far, I like what I see and I hope the developers actually reach a 1.0 release, and possibly end up adding some DLC. It does seem very similar to Ultrakill (judging by pictures and reviews), but a few of the things I like about this game's take on the concept: You start off as an established badass, which is extremely unusual in most first person games. Usually you are some dumb scrub that landed on the wrong planet by accident. I actually like playing some games for the power fantasy element (like Brutal Doom on godmode), so this is a welcomed change. Everything is meant to make it seem like the player character is doing something cool in one way or another. A relatively minor ego boost, but welcomed. Can't exactly say the chainsaw leg is an original concept, considering the existence of Chainsaw Man, but it is definitely a unique weapon in this videogame genre. I like how there are cutscenes showing your chainsaw cutting through wood and steel, demonstrating how potentially dangerous it is. And of course actually using it on enemies is an amazing experience. (Real life chainsaws tend to be much less capable, although they are good at cutting wood.) I haven't even gotten through the first chapter yet, but I'm loving it so far. The visuals are a very nice touch, and I like the idea of fighting humans filled with blood instead of robots filled with blood, with the latter not making a whole lot of sense when you think about it.
